Most of those who are remembered at The AIDS Memorial are unknown, while a tiny few aren’t, though even those who are in the latter category have receded so far back they’re being lost to memory if they haven’t already done so. But what this brilliant and crucial accounting of lives does is simple: It asks us to engage with each and every person’s story, so that we can honor them and what they went through with dignity and respect. I originally was to write my BLOG, with greater anger than usual, as I read and re-read how WAY too many TRUMPSTERS (aka Anarchists, and wannabe Fascists) have decided that the death and dying, the morning and loss of people who have died from COVID has somehow become a political ploy or worse, one more point of propaganda for the ilk known as Republicans. I became inundated with the STUPIDITY of groups of people either uneducated in the SCIENCES/MECIDINE/ or so BIGOTED AND RACIST, that lack of common sense, has left them SENSELESS, and in my opinion, INSANE! And then a thought entered my brain, trying its best to not drown in the DUMB AS SHIT RESIDUE, spilling out like raw sewage from FOX/the GOP Leadership/ and MAGA… why not follow the actions of the LGBTQ community, and read the NAMES of the innocent who died, because way too many of the GUILTY wanted to ignore suffering, death, dying, and preferred their own HATE to TRUTH. I believe every day, every paper in the land, and every news outlet, no matter how large or small their community may be, should read the names of the unknown who have died due to COVID. As the NAMES Project intended, we can provide, DIGNITY AND RESPECT, and SHAME the FOOLS who declare it otherwise…

 

And then, before I decided to post my BLOG, this happened…Law enforcement officials say that three students have been killed and six others have been injured in a shooting at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit. (MSNBC) And I thought, I am just as angry by the death by guns and the men and women who use them to murder, and decided, why not begin to list the names of ALL the victims of mass shootings, and individual’ killing spree… Sadly many to most of the people who pretend MURDER BY WEAPONS is not real, just as DEATH from COVID IS NOT REAL…

 Roughly 24 hours after most people in America first heard about the Omicron variant of Covid-19, Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson (R) offered a conspiracy theory to explain what was happening.

BUT COME ON, for this DOUCHEBAG, the health and welfare of Americans, (let alone the rest of the world), is of NO IMPORTANCE…not when HE and the other GOP understand the mindset of the MAGA MINIONS, the TRUMP LEMMINGS and the Q-ANON GRIFTERS; you know, the people who for whatever Racist/Bigoted/Biased lack of reasoning prefer to place their loved ones in danger, almost acting as might a PRE-MEDITATED MURDERER!

 

So now another VARIANT is approaching this planet, another VIRUS, another attack not only on medicine, and science, but an attack on COMMON SENSE. So Good Ole’ Ronny (Ronnie the doctor), is CERTAIN Mother Nature, is Democrat, and intends to steal the vote, just like the REPUBLICANS have tried with THE BIG LIE/GERRYMANDERED DISTRICTS/VOTER ID LAWS. And even though Ronnie is a newly minted GOP POLITICIAN he still follows the GAME BOOK of most GOP GOONS, by accusing the DEMOCRATS, of participating in the same STEAL THE ELECTION tactics of the GOP!

 It is Hannukah, and like its spelling, this Jewish Holiday has a variety of ways in which we celebrate, as to its origins, and both the spiritual and cultural lessons one might learn!

 

For my family, Chanukah (see, another spelling of it), was about the glow of the candles, and the very special MENORAH, from which the eventual 8 candles shone, dripped their wax, and soon melted, leaving behind a trace, a hint, a story of EXACTLY what THIS current year’s current events included. There was never a recipe or a set of directions as to HOW we should celebrate Hanukah (yet another spelling), BUT there was always the MENORAH upon which we lit the candles one evening at a time…ONE DRIP DROP OF WAX.

 

As kids, we had the official this was Grandma’s MENORAH. It was a plain, almost simplistic copper-made MENORAH! As my Grandmother would add, “a right to the point MENORAH, but it has been the one Grandma Braff purchased when she arrived in America, from Romania, and the one from which she embraced her new identity as an American, but retained her grasp on the days before, being a young Jewish Girl. As a parent starting my own family, we had the clay MENORAHS the kids made while at the JCC, and the family MENORAH, with the puddles of yellow, or white or blue wax, falling from the fingers of my kids.

 

For me, Hannukah- Chanukah- Hanukah, will remain, reasons why we persevere, we hope, we dream, and we fight to face the next horizon with fortitude and promise, DESPITE the VILLIANS of this world who seem to delight in this worlds DEMISE!

I felt a pain fly across my eyes, it then moved slowly toward my temples, and like a riverbed, in the path of a flash flood, the intensity of the wave of pain rushed onto the nerves at the nape of my neck. My gut shouted, “MY TURN,” and a bit of nausea traversed to the spot where my rib cage and esophagus meet, and I felt as if someone kicked me in my solar plexus. I did not want to read this article, HONESTLY, I tried to ignore it, thinking aloud, don’t give this monster Tucker anymore oxygen, and certainly don’t permit a person who murdered two people any more hype; BUT my conscience kicked in and speaking for the rest of my emotions insisted I read about this IMMORAL act and shout out how WRONG, ROTTEN, and INSIDIOUS Tucker Carlson has become, and how much he enjoys HIS NEWLY CROWNED HONOR of becoming FOX’s VILLIAN!

 

In a world not knocked upside down, PRAISE and PROMOTION of anyone murdering even a single person in cold blood, would seem a sin of proportions so large, that a life time in prison might not be enough JUSTICE. Thanksgiving 2021

This hymn was originally a Dutch patriotic song, written around 1600 to celebrate the freedom of the Netherlands from Spanish rule, it is popularly associated with Thanksgiving Day and is often sung at family meals and at religious services on that day.

 

Linden Elementary School circa mid 1950’s, Miss Cypher’s music class (yep back in the day we had Art Class, Library Class, Band, French, PE, and Music classes, and oh yeah, received our Polio Vaccines in Public School). Thanksgiving was almost as important as Christmas, and Miss Cypher’s made certain her School Choir, (of which I was a soprano, even though I could not read music, but somehow could memorize the song) was prepared with a plethora of appropriate AMERICAN TRADITIONAL SONGS, even if those songs were not necessarily demonstrating a divide between CHURCH and STATE. To this day, I still hum the words to “We Gather Together,” right after Halloween and Thanksgiving having my hands placed in a triangle across the middle of my chest, look straight ahead (it was a Miss Cyphers strict rule that a GOOD member of a CHOIR, never look around or lost, but know that the words being sung, are the only direction a person needs). Back in the day, there was no Black Friday sales, no stores open on Thanksgiving, and kids were treated to a four-day weekend. Back in the day we actually felt safe and sound from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day because WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD DO ANYTHING TO SCREW THE WORLD, when so much joy and happiness was supposed to take place.

 

So, thank you Miss Marie Cyphers for enriching my life with music, music I still remember, recall, and embrace and for the memories of moments in time, which had meaning and magic. I know nostalgia neglects to often times include the awful and insidious, and almost as a drug of relief nostalgia eases the stress of today. Thanksgiving 2021, and I want to remember this DAY, for GIVING THANKS to the people in the world who ACTUALLY do good, want good, and make life GOOD. Happy Holidays!

My Grandpa Buncher, owned a Tailor Shop in a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, called Shadyside. In the 1940’s and 1950’s gentrification was as much a foreign word as climate change, carbon footprint, and pollution. In its earliest days Shadyside Tailor Shop, was one more small business on a soon to emerge important street of Small Business, called Walnut Street. Way back in the earliest days, the Shadyside neighborhood was a place for the ultra-wealthy Pittsburgh elite, names like Clay, Mellon, Scaife, Carnegie, Frick, and until most of those families grew tired of the “everyman,” suddenly moving too close for comfort, the Elite of Pittsburgh Society moved away, but close enough to Shadyside to shop the businesses necessary for daily existence.

 

When my Grandfather retired, sad that my father did not desire to take over the Tailor Shop (my Grandfather was willing to change the name to Buncher and Son), he finally spoke about his clientele. It was my Bar Mitzvah, I became a man in the Jewish Tradition, so Tailor Shop talk was now a right of passage. Here are snippets of Grandpa-Grandson advice: Never deny being Jewish, many of his wealthy clients thought the name Buncher was Polish or German, my Grandfather replied he was a Ukrainian Jew. Never let people parade in a float of money. When the wealthy clients would insist their fabrics were too fine to be badly soiled, my Grandfather would tell them maybe you spent too much money on something cheap. And Grandpa Buncher told me, be a MENCH but never let anyone think they can wipe their feet on you because of a last name. He would tell the staff of the Mellon’s or Scaife’s, my name is spelled B-U-N-C-H-E-R and this is MY shop! And as I recall, using other words, my Grandfather told me, be direct, don’t hesitate when you know right from wrong, as painful as it might be…So to PEONS like McConnell and Barr shame on you for not doing anything but licking the entrails of an ENEMY OF THE STATE, like TRUMP!

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who killed two people and wounded another with an assault rifle in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was found not guilty on Friday on all charges, including intentional homicide. Many who followed the story were angered, though not surprised, by the outcome for the then-17-year-old who traveled from Antioch, Illinois, to a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Kenosha. The protests came in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake by a white police officer. (Vanity Fair) 

 

I took a day off, from reading, watching, listening to the NEWS OF THE DAY. I became so overwhelmed at the BAD NEWS, the NEWS OF DELIBERATE EVIL, that I actually needed to find shelter, for fear that one more HIDDEOUS OR IS IT HENNOUS HEADLINE, might knock me over the edge, you know, the space where life is only practiced in survival mode, and not for enjoyment!  Civil rights lawyer David Henderson discusses if the families of Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum go to a civil suit after Kyle Rittenhouse is found not guilty on all charges including the deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and in the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz, now 27. Justice in America is not served, it has been abused, abandoned, as far as I see it. Reading about the tilting of the scales and the seemingly cavalier manner in which Judge Schroeder has drawn attention and controversy in the past. 

Before the trial started, he barred lawyers from referring to the three men shot by Rittenhouse last year as “victims,” calling it a loaded term. He also said Rittenhouse’s attorneys can use words like “looters” and “rioters” to describe the deceased in closing arguments, as long as they offer proof they were engaged in those activities. The judge defended this ruling Wednesday, arguing the word “victim” amounted to “pre-judging what the jury is here to determine, as to whether there’s a victim and whether there was a crime committed.” Last week, Schroeder admonished prosecutors when Rittenhouse took the stand, claiming one of the prosecutors referenced Rittenhouse’s right to remain silent and hinted at a piece of evidence Schroeder had previously excluded. And on Veterans’ Day, the judge asked people in the courtroom to clap for any veterans who were present, which led to a defense witness enjoying a round of applause in front of jurors. (FORBES)

 

Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, WERE victims, they were shot by RITTENHOUSE, their life was taken by the man who held the AR-15, RITTENHOUSE. “Victims, indeed, is a loaded term especially when you are murdered by a loaded AR-15. Frankenstein…Young Frankenstein…The Horror of Frankenstein…and in the year of 2016, TRUMP FRANKENSTEIN, and the year 2021, TED CRUZ WANNA BE TRUMP FRANKENSTEIN.

 

It seems the 2016 FRANKENSTEIN movie, THE ORANGE CURSE OF TRUMP-EINSTEIN, was a hit among the many Americans thriving on Racism/Bigotry/Bogus/Bias/Fascism/Authoritarianism/The Demise of Democracy/ and an adverse reaction to Truth/Knowledge/Science/Medicine/Education/Facts and the Constitution. Ever since Mary Shelley’s novel became a movie, more and more people have tried to claim the honor of becoming the Kings or Queen of Horror. As the 2024 Election year looms upon a horizon wrecked with dismay, disarray, doom, and destruction, it also seems more and more TRUMP-EINSTEIN REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES are also claiming to be as much a monster as TRUMP and have acted in the most sordid and sick ways. Ted Cruz so far has out TRUMPED the rest of the wanna-be monsters and has no remorse in doing so.

It took a while for Kelly (John Kelly, Donald Trump's former White House chief of staff) to reach this point, though he's taken some steps in this direction. Last year, for example, former Defense Secretary James Mattis, wrote a rather extraordinary rebuke of Trump, condemning the then-president for being divisive, immature, and cavalier about abusing his powers. Soon after, Kelly publicly endorsed Mattis' criticisms.

Kelly added at the time, "I think we need to look harder at who we elect. I think we should look at people that are running for office and put them through the filter: What is their character like? What are their ethics?" By January, Kelly saw far less need for subtlety, accusing Trump of "poisoning" people's minds. Kelly added that Trump is "a very, very flawed man ... who has got some serious character issues." (MSNBC)

 

So some, now, have found an inner voice of courage, a book deal, perhaps a long look in the mirror and in viewing their reflection back, seeing nothing but a miserable accumulation of atoms! This blog, however, is NOT about the change of will from abetting and sheltering a wanna-be FASCIST/DICTATOR, to becoming a truthteller, pretending that all along all you were doing is trying to keep him less TOXIC. This blog is concentrating on two sentences within Kelly’s MIA CULPA, "I think we need to look harder at who we elect. It seems there has been little TO DO, in regard to the character of many to most people who somehow become a POLITICIAN, act as puppets once a POLITICIAN, or desire the power, pomp and circumstance and privileges that once they become a POLITICIAN, become as necessary to survive as oxygen and water. This blog is asking questions as to why if becoming a POLITICIAN should require a myriad of questions, why is it that we leave it to that same ILK of POLITICIAN to ask the important questions and answer them. My stomach churns and my gut burns just reading the NOISE of the day as the majority of current Republicans, act like the THREE Monkey’s, having seen nothing, hearing nothing and worse, saying nothing, and the acid reflux jumps out of my esophagus as way too many Democrats only seem to push hard enough NOT to find a TOTAL TRUTH. Kyle Rittenhouse’s mother says she would have tried to stop her teenage son from going to downtown Kenosha with an AR-15-style rifle during chaotic protests in August, but she didn’t know where he was or what he was doing. By the time she found out, he had fatally shot two men and wounded a third.

 

The Texas Republican referred to Biden as “Jimmy Carter 2.0” on Fox News on Thursday, claiming “the same sort of ideology and incompetence that characterized the Carter regime characterizes now the Biden-Harris regime.”

 

I grow SO tired of the STUPID controlling the narrative…the arrogant, the purposely ignorant, and the inadequate. And I become ANGRY at how those of us who are not the STUPID, THE ARROGANT, THE IGNORANT are supposed to somehow REACT, seemingly on the DEFENSE, as if the MADE-UP STORY, minus real facts, or reasoning is the TRUE story!

 

 So, let’s take charge of the narrative for once and for all: HEY Mrs. Rittenhouse, how come you had no idea where your son was? HEY MRS. RITTENHOUSE, how come your, son had a AR 15 style gun, and what in the world Mrs. Rittenhouse would have needed for one? HEY, Mrs. Rittenhouse please explain how shooting two people is a good thing? TEDDY, WHAT ideology were you using when TRUMP said negative things about your wife, and once he was nominated, you decided to permit his insults to remain without any apology? Hey, TEDDY, what kind of ideology were using when you decided to leave TEXAS and TEXANS without power, go to Mexico, and then throw your daughters under the bus blaming them for your vacation plans? Hey, TEDDY, incompetence, what word would you use to define your permission to let TRUMP plan a coup and INSURRECTION?

I am young too young to have been part of FDR’s Fireside Chats, but old enough to have parents as the audience as President Roosevelt spoke to all Americans. I am old enough to have experienced the 1960’s and protested as Presidents then lied to America regarding Viet Nam, and sadly way too old to have experienced the four years of TRUMP and his disregard for Democracy, and his continuing regard to making America Fascist. 

 

I write you this letter, never really knowing if you will see it, let alone read it, but I write this letter because I have reached my wit's end, and each day, as the news professes that your popularity is slipping, I worry! I voted for you Mr. President, I believe in you, Mr. President, and for the sake of the next generations of family and friends I want you to succeed. But Mr. President, what EXACTLY are you doing, or is it not doing to convince the AMERICA people that you are aware of the concerns and questions, and confusion way too many of us feel?

 

I referred to President Roosevelt in my first paragraph. I mentioned HIS Fire Side Chats, and HIS ability to communicate almost one on one with very anxious and wary Citizenry. From anecdotes by my parents and grandparents, and history itself (I am one of the millions of Americans who believe in) HISTORY it seems FDR was quite successful in curbing lies, innuendo, and falsehoods.  Dear Dad,

It is November 11, 2021, yep Veteran’s Day, and YES, since you passed on, there have been way too many wars, and way too many reasons to thank more men and women for their service to our nation. Brave, bold, scared, sure, young, innocent, more mature, rougher around the collars, the entire cornucopia of citizens eager, able, hesitant, cautious, concerned, but still motivated have served in the Armed Forces of America. And Dad, there are still the politicians who use the PREMISE of war as a litmus test for defining Patriotism, even though many of them have never taken the ENLISTMENT TEST THEMSELVES. And Dad, as you and I often commented, many of those POLITICIANS loved to wrap the flag around their gaping wound of HYPOCRISY!

 

But Dad, this Veterans Day, is for me, WAY different than even back in the days of Viet Nam when the VETS, returning to the United States were shunned, or discarded as if they were yesterday’s news. That was and still is a stain on the ideals of what you promised me America could be. Many more wars, Dad, as I mentioned, took place since you have been gone. And I will add my commentary Dad, (you encouraged me to always speak about justice and honor, good and against evil), too many wars had been fought under false pretense, and of course misleading information, by, ONCE AGAIN, politicians placing SELF BEFORE COUNTRY!

 

Recently, Dad, a stench of Fascism/Authoritarianism has finally crept up from the underbelly hibernating as HATE, which like weeds, with firm roots, never really die. Men and women have wrapped themselves in both the Confederate and Nazi war flags; FLAGS of enemies of the state, who now claim to represent the STATE. As I see it Dad, almost the entire Republican Party has decided to look the other way, IDENTIFY with, or act as if INSURRECTION is as AMERICAN as APPLE PIE or serving our nation. From the Commonwealth of Virginia to the School Boards of Colorado, to the not so hallowed halls of a not so supreme, Supreme Court, it seems that on Wednesday November 3, 2021, the chance for change, the necessity of knowledge, the honoring of history, and sincerity of saving lives has died at the plate. If not completely dead, all of the above is dying a deep and dreadful demise, RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES!

 

Voters have decided that Critical Race Theory is actually a lesson of history that should NOT be taught, and that facts and truth are not a necessary path forward in helping our youth fight prejudice, bigotry, and bias. Pretend that Racism, Misogyny, Homophobia or Anti-Semitism never existed, of if they did so, it was ALL part of making America great. Voters have decided that an Insurrection triumphed and condoned by TRUMP and his co-coup-conspirators was not a bad thing for democracy, and maybe just maybe the Republican Party should not be blamed for covering up as much of the truth as they have. The voters have decided that “PRO LIFE,” somehow only extends to the zygote of fetus, but once living in the womb is finished, dying from COVID, or LOCKED AND LOADED Guns has nothing with to do with Life…because Liberty to let others die is more of a priority.

It was 1971, my first Teen Musical as a Director and Choreographer. Charity a dancer for hire is desperately trying to find love, and more so the truth about being in love. The play was Sweet Charity. Charity Hope Valentine was known to her best friends as the Gal for whom they said, "you run your heart like a hotel — you've always got people checking in and checking out". Charity never stopped trying to believe in something. She hoped that the TRUTH-HONESTY would triumph, and the CRAP and INSINCERITY would be doomed. Charity sings the song, “Where Am I Going, only to discover, she just might be traveling in circles. This was my first Off-Off-Off-Off Broadway production, and I loved every minute of it!

 

November 2, 2021. Election Day in America! Just the term ELECTION DAY IN AMERICA may become a very obsolete “Old Timey” irrelevant sentence. Election Day in America! It may fall prey to the term, “Critical Race Theory”, the excuse to never speak of the bigoted, racist, and malevolent international acts either YOUR ancestors or YOU actually performed. Election Day in America! How in the world could or would or should anyone vote for a Republican candidate, unless he or she has actually called out the Insurrection as a COUP against Democracy, and AMERICA! I read that somehow, enough of a population of voters have forgotten or forgiven TRUMP and the Fascists surrounding him trying to tear down our Democracy, and I grow so ill in my gut as to want to PUKE, nonstop!

 

The song “Where Am I Going,” popped into my head as I felt a sick spiral sensation. January 6, 2021, was only 10 months ago, and we are still feeling the aftershocks of a wanna-be AUTHORITARIAN and his band of wanna-be SS Troops. Where am I going, and where the fuck are we as a nation going to end up?

When it came to any sentence spoken in Yiddish, other than “Oy vey” a phrase expressing dismay or exasperation such as woe is me.  Or  “Kine hora”  a contraction of three Yiddish words: kayn ayin hara, literally “not (kayn) the evil (hara) eye (ayin); my siblings and I knew IMMEDIATELY someone was either in trouble, someone was caught doing something no one was supposed to know about, OR as we grew older, any lengthy sentence in Yiddish, inserted with a recognizable name, followed by a GRIMMACE, A SEVERE SHAKING OF ONLY THE HEAD, or a “POO-POO-POO” AND SOME SPITTLE, one of our relatives had been caught cheating or discovered as an alcoholic! Sometimes when Grandma Braff and I would play Gin Rummy (she swore she never cheated, always seemed to win, and when it came to cards, it was every Grandchild for themselves), my Grandmother would share her views on the world and the people for whom she said, “only think they live on Earth,” and would speak in Yiddish, translating into English, her dismay and disgust for No Goodniks!

 

A poll released Monday by the Public Religion Research Institute is the latest to show that, even after the tumultuous events of Jan. 6, a large number of Republicans — 3 in 10 — believe violence might be justified “to save our country.”

What this poll adds to the dialogue is how much that overlaps with belief about a stolen election. Among those who believe the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, support for justified violence rises to 39 percent. (Washington Post).
