Governors in two states passed major gun control legislation this week and a third is poised to do the same soon.

On Friday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed the legislative package that included a longer waiting period for firearm sales, and an increase in the minimum age to purchase a gun.

Colorado's move came three days after Washington state became the 10th state in the nation to ban assault rifles and handguns after Gov. Jay Inslee signed a gun reform package.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told reporters this week that he will sign a gun control package that includes prohibitions for civilian gun owners to bring their guns to schools and other sensitive locations. (ABC NEWS)

Clarence Thomas is not alone. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has also benefitted financially from parties with an interest in the high court's business while neglecting to disclose the relationship, growing concerns over corruption within the institution.

Politico reported on Tuesday that Gorsuch had been trying to sell a piece of land in Colorado for nearly two years before Brian Duffy -- the CEO of Greenberg Traurig, a law firm whose cases often find their way before the Supreme Court -- bought it on April 16, 2017.

 

Gorsuch noted on federal disclosure forms that he made between $250,001 and $500,000 on the sale. The forms included a space where Gorsuch could have disclosed the identity of the purchaser, but he left it blank. Politico notes that Greenberg Traurig has since had 22 cases come before the court, and that in the 12 instances in which Gorsuch's opinion was recorded, he sided with his benefactor's firm on eight of them -- including one that damaged the Clean Air Act. We Must Fight Back

 The Florida-based think tank and its lobbying arm, the Opportunity Solutions Project, have found remarkable success among Republicans to relax regulations that prevent children from working long hours in dangerous conditions. And they are gaining traction at a time the Biden administration is scrambling to enforce existing labor protections for children.

The FGA for years has worked systematically to shape policy at the state level, fighting to advance conservative causes such as restricting access to anti-poverty programs and blocking Medicaid expansion. (Remember it is the Red States who are enforcing these actions)

 

But in February, the White House announced a crackdown on child labor violators in response to what activists have described as a surge in youths — many of them undocumented immigrants — working at meat packing plants, construction sites, auto factories and other dangerous job sites.

The administration’s top labor lawyer called the proposed state child labor laws “irresponsible,” and said it could make it easier for employers to hire children for dangerous work. (Washington Post) (Look closely, it is the Dems who are trying to fight back)

By permitting kids to run for safe rooms in schools. By now insisting that no kid should play outside due to an errant basketball or stepping on someone else’s driveway. PTSD

 PTSD: A disorder in which a person has difficulty recovering after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event.

The condition may last months or years, with triggers that can bring back memories of the trauma accompanied by intense emotional and physical reactions.

Symptoms may include nightmares or unwanted memories of the trauma, avoidance of situations that bring back memories of the trauma, heightened reactions, anxiety, or depressed mood.

 

The Troops returning from Viet Nam suffered the consequences of witnessing firsthand, the death and destruction of weapons of war. Their trauma had been ignored. Somehow, murdering, and marauding other humans were just considered what a Troop must do in a war. Not until the Veterans of the Bush/Cheney Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan returned home, broken, shattered, and suicidal, did our government even begin to admit that PTSD was real. Of course, the men and women who had the power to send the Troops into war, seldom if ever had to shoot the weapons of mass destruction, or see the bloodied bodies of the enemy, the innocent, or their fellow Troops.

 

I MUST wonder, how are the survivors, the families of the victims, the friends of the victims the First Responders of death and destruction within the United States coping? Weapons of War have been too abundant in our nation. Weapons of War have been used almost as a form of Domestic Terrorism. Weapons of War have been supported by those who place the dollars of the NRA and the Gun Manufactures within our Governing Bodies.

 

Thank goodness, I have not lost a family member, a friend, or a coworker to WEAPONS OF WAR, permitted to be acquired and used by mainly the Republican Party. But I must wonder how, when war is waged in our classrooms, theaters, parades, marathons, neighborhoods, and concerts, HOW DO THOSE WHO LOST LOVED ONES OR FRIENDS, survive? 

 

 

Sitting Shiva

 To sit SHIVA! Sitting shiva' is the phrase used to describe the action of Jewish mourners participating in the traditional rituals of shiva observance following a death ...

Shiva is derived from the word sheva, which means seven, signifying the seven days of mourning. It is a time referred to as – “sitting shiva” and its primary purpose is to provide a time for spiritual and emotional healing, where mourners join together.

 

I am in mourning for the Democracy of my country. I am in mourning for the children, adults, relatives, friends, and family MURDERED by the USE of guns, assault weapons, and weapons of war. I am in mourning for the women who may no longer have ANY or ALL control for their own bodies, and their choices regarding their reproductive rights.

 

The Supreme Court, a Court that includes two men who had been accused of sexual harassment and rape, never proven but with way too many facts presented. A Supreme Court with one person caught taking gifts, maybe bribes, and lying about knowledge regarding his mother’s home and his wife’s income. Three Justices, when asked about Roe V. Wade having been a Legal Precedent, assured this nation that it would remain so. One Justice, who somehow seemed to leak his decision regarding Roe, denied any involvement.

 

These men and women are once more the folks who will decide that Medicine and Science have little standing in regard to women’s rights. These people will once again be able to bulldoze the line between Church and State.

 

The Republicans, most to many elected from Right Wing Gerrymandered Districts, many and most bought and paid for by the NRA, pretend to be Pro-Life, but only if it pertains to the fetus inside a woman.

 

Another day of murder, another day of denial of rights. How much more should we take?

But via Gerrymandering, Voter Restrictive laws, and the tired and dismal idea of Federalism, an overarching national government is responsible for broader governance of larger territorial areas, while the smaller subdivisions, states, and cities govern the issues of local concern.

The ECA has not been updated since its enactment more than 130 years ago, and it is rife with gaps and ambiguities that make it confusing. Critically, the imprecise language allows for multiple interpretations of key terms. For example:  

 

The ECA sets a national election day per the Constitution, but the law is ambiguous as to what sorts of exceptions could allow states to choose their electoral college members after Election Day. 

 

The ECA makes it too easy for individual members of Congress to try to throw out a state’s results.  

 

The ECA supposedly allows states to resolve their own election results and contests but has no enforcement mechanism to protect those resolutions.

This law has provided fodder for the foolish to protest the results of an election if, in fact, their candidate did not receive the majority of votes. Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said the gunman was confirmed dead.

 

Yet, even with 1241 Police Officers, a person with a GUN managed to murder 4 good people and wound 9 good people.  I do not want any sob story regarding the MURDERER'S background. I will mourn the 4 good people who died and wish for the physical recovery of the 9 wounded and hope that as much professional time used to heal their physical wounds will be put in place for their mental wounds. 

 

Maybe now, instead of the Republicans taking any action on GUNS, we all will have to plan duck and cover drills for the marketplace, as our children do while in school!
