September 11, 2001, I can remember where I was, what I felt, and just how terrified I had become, at first not knowing why, wondering where the next target would be, thinking about my family and friends, and anticipating horrors beyond imagination.
Was this the beginning of a war? I remember asking those around me. Has our government been destroyed? There was the stench of chaos, the acrid odor of paranoia, and the palpable thumping in my heart of helplessness.
And then as the endless hours rolled on and on and the news broadcasts became clearer and clearer, there was this din of death and destruction, an endless barrage of nightmarish videos haunting, horrific, and a rancid version of reality being showcased.
Twenty-four years ago, our nation was attacked by a foreign menagerie of people who hated democracy and the principles of freedom, justice, liberty, choice, and justice. We vowed to unite to fight back, be strong, and unite. That was twenty-four years ago, and twenty-four years later we have headlines like this.
Trump is taking America down a slippery slope where the military can kill anyone. The president ordered the killings of suspected drug smugglers without due process and has used increasingly violent rhetoric about sending troops to U.S. cities. (msnbc)
