“Career politicians”, is the catch phrase in the advertisements used by Meg Whitman ex EBAY CEO and now Republican candidate for the office of CEO of California, the Governor’s job.
Ms Whitman lambasts those politicians who make a career out of running for office or who never seem to work at any real legit job. She casts a dubious eye on anyone who is so entrenched in Washington or in Sacramento or in any body of Government as to not see the forest through the trees. It seems in the eyes of this “non politician”, going into Government is bad…except if like her you are going in to clean house, remodel and then sell the property.
Ms Whitman is riding a perceived band wagon of “throw the bum out”. She hears the drum beat in the distance that incumbents are bad mavericks are good. She chants the mantra of I am doing this for you and will make all the sacrifices so YOU have a better choice. And I promise (fingers crossed behind my back so you can’t see them), that once I am in office I will NEVER EVER become a career politician!
Huh?
How many times have we heard that THOSE guys are bad? If I am elected I will toss THOSE guys out the window and bring clarity and truth to the city, county, state or Federal Government. I am different, I am the great hope you wanted. Except I have told you that you wanted me, and you really didn’t know you wanted me until I informed you of that fact.
And the gullible guys and gals who crave something different, suffering from short term memory loss pile up in great numbers and vote in the non politician candidates, and vote out the evil bad guy. Then two years, four years, six years later, we discover that the non career politician has turned into Dracula, Frankenstein, Freddie Kruger and our worst nightmares come true, they are wolves in sheep clothing…CAREER POLITICIANS.
UGH!
Politics has become such an ugly word, not necessarily because it is a person, place or thing, but because when people act political their actions leave behind ugly, scary, selfish, self serving scars. When Politics changes from a noun to a verb that is when Politicians are to be feared.
When ulterior motives are left out of campaign ads, the lobbyist groups secretly supporting the candidates try and disguise themselves as neutral forces, or only wealthy billionaires spend a great portion of their money pretending to speak for the common man/woman, and truth is silenced by slick marketing, madding propaganda, paid actors to portray real people those results result in a win-win for the pretend non politician politician and a loss-loss for American voters.
As has been the case in the Bush Cheney Dictatorship over the past 8 years, and the change in Hope minus the Capitol H of Obama and the Democrats in the past year, the truth is either lacking completely or has been restated, re-quoted, or redirected. And instead of honesty or truth, fabrication or innuendo, lies have become the norm, and no one is accountable for anything they pledge, promise or pray about.
So, when we are told that career politicians are bad, why are we never told how the next politician running for office will not make a career out of running for another and another office and not be as bad as the boogie men they belie? And if THEY happen to be a POLITICIAN who makes a career out of doing the peoples work, why not be proud of their accomplishments and linger in the job till it is done right?
Making a career out of showcasing your talents, your abilities, your altruistic desires to inspire and motivate is notable. Making a career out of greedy, gluttonous, ghoulish self serving motives is down right devious and dirty.
“Career Politicians”, if we actually had some people who invest their talents, education, wherewithal, for the good of the many and not the greed of the few, then having that career as a politician could be commendable. We want men and women to go into Politics for all the right reasons, among which are to serve “…we the people…” we do not want anyone to decide to be a politician to serve “…I the person…”
SIGH!!
What has come upon the citizens of this great nation when the Democratic process turns from red white and blue to black and white, to greed versus good, to lies outliving the truth, to career politicians whose only career is to acquire the power and leave the little man far behind?
