it ain't 1974

IF ONLY, BUT NOT IN 2025!

If Trump is contemplating defying the courts, he should remember Nixon first The president almost certainly would not be impeached. But that doesn't mean he would emerge politically unscathed.

The political context is important. By the time of the Supreme Court’s ruling, Nixon’s political capital had collapsed. His approval rating hovered around 24%, and his fellow Republicans in Congress had abandoned him. Everyone — including the justices — knew that ignoring the court would probably result in Nixon’s impeachment and removal. (msnbc.com)

PICTURE THIS: America 1974, the “unsinkable Nixon,” did the unthinkable. But back then, The Court and The Republican Party decided to participate in our nation’s democracy rather than dismantle it. There were fewer EUNUCHS in Congress and the Supreme Court. The president was an asshole, a criminal, a narcissistic pig. Also, we did not have Citizens United proclaiming Corporations are People.

In 1974, I believe Nixon was pushing for an Imperial Presidency and permitted his arrogance to act as a shepherd, playing the rest of the Branches of Government as ignorant and assuming that in the end they would all roll over and play dead.

If Trump raises the stakes for the court, a ruling against Trump risks the executive branch’s defiance, which could damage the court’s legitimacy. (msnbc.com)

In 2024 and 2025, the Court has delegitimatized itself, proclaiming the president is immune from guilt, proclaiming that the president can become above the law, and both houses of Congress have demonstrated their lack of interest in preserving Democracy, preferring to preserve their own political careers! Be afraid!
