proof and pudding

My Grandma Buncher was not one to smile a whole lot. She had this frown which made her look like she was from ‘Who-ville’. It looked to me whenever I stared at her, as if her two lips were made from plaster to always form the look of the letter O.

I didn’t know the meanings of the words dubious, skeptical or wary at the time, but I did know, no one outside of her family could ever be taken at their word when it came to Grandma Buncher. She was at the ready to inform us that watch what he says, watch to whom he said it, and watch his eyes when he tells you some cock and bull story. (Growing up I knew that cock and bull must be bad and felt badly for the cock and the bull).

Grandma Buncher believed the proof was in the pudding and would always add, it may seem easy to make pudding, but the best pudding is the most difficult to achieve. And believe you me she would say, I have eaten a very few good pudding.

I was 8 when my Grandmother passed away, but her lectures were so stern, her smile so little and her distrust of words that never followed the correct action stuck with me. I could trust people I thought but perhaps an ounce of hesitation might make the trusting part more worthwhile. And to this day I dislike pudding.

Karen Handel, Senior Vice President of Public Policy for the Susan G. Komen Foundation is a homophobe, a bigot and an ultra right wing politician able to find a soap box from which to try and make pudding. She is clear on her agenda against abortion, women's right to choose the type of health care they wish, and she is vehemently against the Gay. She is proud and loud about her dislikes and her likes are filled with words like “a true Christian”, ‘the Bible tells me so’, and ‘those issues, (women’s rights, abortion, Gays) distract Americans from dealing with the real issues’

In the case of most people who hate or deny, Ms Handel dismisses the attention to her own detail and tries most uncomfortably to change the subject when approached by non haters as to why she hates. She, like most religion based bigots, says with a sly pucker of the lips that is not what God wants. She tries to insist it makes common sense that this country really is a Christian nation. And she refuses to hear her own words played back to her insisting that too much time is spent on silly things like Gays or Abortion rights; even as she makes every effort to say those ‘fire in the theater’ words herself!

Today the world was notified that Susan G. Komen Foundation is NOT going to withhold their grant money to Planned Parenthood. Too much hoopla was made of an innocent mistake by the Komen Foundation and for NOW the grant money will be flowing again. Don’t look at the man behind the curtain, don’t imply bias or bigotry, don’t trust the words we just used BUT now trust what we are going to do this time around. As I read the comments from The Komen Foundation, I heard my Grandma Buncher insisting for me to watch what they are saying, and why!

Really, Susan G. Komen Foundation you have changed your mind for good? Really Susan G. Komen Foundation you still have Karen Handel as Senior Vice President, and we are too believe the fire she started will be completely defused? Really Susan G. Komen Foundation once this uproar has passed you will continue to stay away from politics and just concentrate on women and breast cancer?

As my Grandma Buncher would say that is just a bunch of cock and bull. It is cock and bull Susan G. Komen Foundation because Ms Handler is still the top dog and she has no intent to step down or step down from her rhetoric against abortion rights. Ms Handler hates an awful lot of the demographics in this nation, she is proud of her hate and you still keep her in office?

My Grandma Buncher was never one to be lulled into changing her mind about people. She could and would recite the times people said one thing only to continue doing the other things that were wrong. My Grandma Buncher said if you trip it is your own fault for not looking straight ahead, but if someone pushes you it is your fault for not looking behind you to see who thinks you are in their way.

For now, if you read the commentary from Susan G. Komen Foundation they sweetly say we apologize. For now they say bygones are bygones so once again give us your money. For now all is well, but what happens when for now turns into tomorrow?
