Prop 8

Today, in California, a judge overturned Prop 8 a proposition voted on by Californians to deny same sex marriages from becoming legal.

For those proponents of the law who based their vote on saving a TRADITION such as marriage between one man and one woman:
*it was a tradition in this country to permit slavery, blacks to eat and drink and ride in black only spaces designated by whites.
*it was a tradition for women not be permitted to vote, earn less than a man in salary.
*it was a tradition for those with disabilities to either find shelter in a nursing home or live on the street, and to have them get out of their wheel chairs, drop their canes, leave their seeing eye dogs behind and fall off the sidewalk, hobble up steps or bump into walls.

For those who say their marriages will have less VALUE if same sex couples wed:
*how come you place value on your own marriage based on others?
*how come the love you supposedly found in your spouse suddenly diminishes and dissolves because someone else loves their spouse?
*how come your marriage is only as strong or only as weak as anyone else who wishes to wed?

For those who ring their hands rub their foreheads shouting opposite sex marriage is for the CHILDREN:
*what have you done to protect the environment for the children?
*what have you done to push for less state cuts in education for the children?
*What lessons of love, equality, fairness will you teach your children?

For those who insist it is a matter of religion:
*when was the last time your God spoke to you directly (and not in the guise of Pat Robertson, James Dobson, the Pope,) explaining to you that he created all humans in his image, but for the hell of it threw in a few queers?
*when did the same religion which deemed segregation fair, Jews Christ killers, insisted on crusades, cross burnings become full of morals and ethics?
*when were you made God?

For those opponents of Prop 8:
*thanks for understanding the Constitution, and realizing the Constitution and the Bible are not the same documents.
*thanks for realizing that the institution of marriage is only as strong as those who love each other, and as weak as those who profess love but prefer adultery and infidelity.
*thanks for thinking about the children, not only yours but those from the LGBT community who come from loving homes, loving parents, who want to be a part of a loving and whole family.

We must realize that democracy is not at the whim of those who think because they are the majority they are right. We must realize in a true democracy that all people deserve equal, not separate but equal. We must realize that this is America.
