There are exciting campaigns to watch in every part of the country, up and down the ballot, which will not only dictate the course of the nation’s government in the near future, these races are also likely to have a major impact on our democracy. SCHNUER: (Yiddish)-One who habitually takes advantage of the generosity of others; a parasite. SCHTUNK: (Yiddish)-A rotten, worthless, or utterly incompetent person; someone who is extremely petty, negative, and dishonest. SCHMUCK: (English)- a foolish or contemptible person.

 

Growing up, whenever my Grandmother and her contemporaries wanted to be a little off-color, my siblings and I realized that suddenly entire sentences would be spoken in Yiddish. Most often if Grandma Braff and her consorts had some Peach Schnapps, during a Family Holiday or get together, (or was it quite a few shots of Peach Schnapps), many words were never spoken that often in ONE sentence, were spewed, with the best spittle and looks of disgust. Once spoken, to make a final point that ALL WAS NOT RIGHT, Grandma Braff and her Lady Friends would bob their heads up and down almost in a cadence! The final word, again in unison would be SCHUNDA (YIDDISH)-Misbehavior by a particular Jew or Jewish group that leads to embarrassment among the broader Jewish community. Perhaps one more Peach shot of Schnapps a few “POOH-POOH-POOHS” and all the evil that had to be said, WAS FINISHED!

 

I knew TRUMP would never go away. I knew that somehow, no matter how strong or weak the attempt to rid THIS scourge from this nation was applied, like so many MONSTERS from HELL, the stench, and disease of TRUMP would remain. What I had NOT counted on, was JUST how EMPTY and IMMORAL a vast amount of REPUBLICAN PUPPETS would CONTINUE, hoping to be loved by a vile and venomous BASE.

 

One day as I grew older, I decided to use an SC word of my own, in front of my Grandma Braff. I called someone a SCHMUCK. She turned to me and asked why I called someone a PENIS. I looked embarrassed, my own Grandma said PENIS. In Yiddish, SCHMUCK translates as PENIS. OY! But Grandma, may she rest in peace, TRUMP  is  SCHMUCK in the most DISINGENOUS WAY I CAN THINK OF!

Joey Manchin is worried for the safety of HIS GRANDKIDS, not worried enough to renounce the WEAPONIZED NRA, and their EVER OBEDIENT SENATE PUPPETS, but he is trying to find some kind of way forward…FOR WHOM, THOSE FAMILIES WHO VISIT THE GRAVES OF THEIR MURDERED LOVED ONES, OR HIS GRANDKIDS! JOEY has GRANDKIDS, and suddenly NOW, understanding how the INNOCENT PERISH by the MURDEROUS HANDS of both the OWNERS OF ASSAULT WEAPONS, and the ENABLERS weighs HEAVY on his GUILTY MIND.

Let me begin by expressing my great AWE, and RESPECT, for the Individuals who placed FREEDOMS, LIBERTIES, JUSTICE, and DEMOCRACY above and beyond their own LIVES! Heroes are, oftentimes, those who understand that to SACRIFICE does not require a CAPE, or MAGICAL abilities, or SUPERPOWERS, but a will to do what they believe is the right thing, which often times becomes greater than themselves!

 

But back to the Original holiday, called DECORATION DAY. The UNION as in the North wanted to honor those AMERICANS, not the CONFEDERACY, who fought a war, not created by them, but forced upon them, by RACISTS/BIGOTS/ and SELF-PROCLAIMED owners of a very vengeful GOD. Sometimes it was Family fighting Family, Friend fighting Friend, and sadly AMERICAN fighting, ENEMIES of the STATE, once identifying as AMERICANS. For me as I read and re-read AMERICAN HISTORY, the most unsettling lesson I learned was that HATE/LOATHING/IGNORANCE initiated by those who decided that PROFITS as in retaining SLAVERY as a business, was a PRIORITY; and INSISTING that “THE OTHER,” was an ADVERSARY was the way forward, and their GOD’S will!

 

DECORATION DAY, 2022. Shamefully, this AMERICA has fallen into the shadows of having never learned any lessons from HISTORY, and as I look around, I see way too many similarities, from a SHAMEFUL, SINFUL, STUPID PAST! I have to wonder, how many MAGA/CONFEDERATE/NAZI/TRUMP Flags will be flown full of HYPOCRISY, waving on the lawns of those who actually seem to hate this NATION. For those who have PERISHED trying desperately to save DEMOCRACY, there are still many of us who hope your deaths were not in vain!

From Columbine to Uvalde and the horrific trail of blood in-between, those whose INNOCENCE had been taken by the use of GUNS, those whose LIVES had been lost, by the CARNAGE weapons of MASS MURDER were invented to do, there is no celebration of MEMORIAL DAY 2022, their families either shattered or smothered, cannot look around and share the hope and promise that holidays often time encourage!

 

MEMORIAL DAY is a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970. Sadly, at least for me, MEMORIAL DAY is no longer a day to JUST remember those WOMEN and MEN who died for this nation's pursuit of LIBERTY AND FREEDOM for ALL, but with the never-ending refusal of PAID TO PLAY POLITICIANS, preferring their own PROFITS over PEOPLE, this 2022 MEMORIAL DAY, will once again be a reminder, of those WOMEN/MEN/and CHILDREN who have been causalities of DOMESTIC BATTLES.

 

For the VICTIMS, the FAMILIES, my hand to my heart, for the TRADGETY of MADNESS, which easily COULD have and SHOULD have been remedied!

 

 

 

Memorial Day Weekend

 Growing up in Pittsburgh, when Memorial Day approached, all of the kids on our street realized that SUMMER TIME, was almost around the corner and that finally and forever, until perhaps the middle of September, there would not be any more snowfall. Humidity immediately smothered our street, and our older relatives complained that SCHVITZ weather was here, and seemed to forget that with a Pittsburgh winter, they had once dreamed of “when will it finally be summer?”

 

The sweet smell of charcoals, the sickeningly sweet smell of lighter fluid, the cautionary lectures about not too much lighter fluid, don’t stand so close you could burn off your nose, the shared stories of kids who actually placed too much lighter fluid and DID have their faces blown off, buzzed around our row of houses, almost as incessant as the somehow newly hatched mosquitos, which mysteriously JUST appeared on Memorial Day!!!!! BUT, FINALLY, it was Memorial Day weekend, with longer days, shorts taken out of storage, trips to Father and Son Shoe Store to buy the one-inch rubber-coated Tennis Shoes (Yes, in Pittsburgh, they were called Tennis Shoes), and for our family, the official visit to Jerry and Son Barbershop, for my summer crew cut, and my little sisters, mop cut. 

 

We knew it was Memorial Day Weekend because Saturday was the day we replaced the Winter Storm Windows with Screens, any and all pieces of clothing that provided warmth were placed in plastic bags, sweaters put in the Cedar Chest, and the Blankets for winter warmth folded and placed on the scary shelves in the recess of our basement. My mother would remind us that we should not complain about these chores because they all were leading up to SUMMER VACATION! 

 

Sunday of Memorial Day was dress rehearsal day for the summer vacation approaches. We all reminded one another of the past summer games and if any new rules had suddenly been issued from tag, to catch, to hide and seek, to races, to how to bat a ball. The older kids always took on those responsibilities, leaving their younger siblings confused because new rules and regulations were imposed every summer. Our parents used Saturday evening after our picnic dinners, to show off their newest Lawn Furniture purchased from Hills Department Store or for a better price point K-Mart. Our mothers would set up their Lawn Chairs in the front of our house, my mother supplying freshly squeezed lemon aid, and her sampling of SUMMER COOKIES. (Summer cookies always had icing and some kind of fruit). And for the Buncher Family, Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend, we went to the Silver Lake Drive-In on Washington Blvd. We had a cousin who managed the Silver Lake, we called him Uncle Charlie, and starting with Sunday, he provided us with passes good for the entire summer. (Our neighbors envied us!).

 

Memories, some of which may be exact, some almost true, all so wonderful to hold on to! Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

 

 

AS LONG

 As long as the REPUBLICANS insist that everything but EASY ACCESS to GUNS, is the root of the problem causing MASS SHOOTINGS, NOTHING of any LIFE-SAVING LAW AND ORDER LAWS will ever be enacted. From the mouths of RAPHAEL CRUZ JUNIOR to THE KING OF COUPS, TRUMP, to the Senator RON JOHNSON of Wisconsin, GREG ABBOTT and his REPUBLIC OF HIGH NOON, and the MYRIAD OF ASSISTANTS TO MURDER identifying as the GOP, all we hear are THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS, (albeit this time in UVALDE, the thoughts and prayers were not as loud as in the past MASS MURDERS committed by people using GUNS) …and BLAME. BLAMING everything from, TOO MANY DOORS, WOKENESS, MILITARIZING SCHOOLS, ARMING TEACHERS, LOCKING KIDS INSIDE CLASSROOMS, BULLIT PROOF BACKPACKS.

 

As long as the HYPOCRISY of those pretending to be PRO-LIFE NEVER try to represent the life OUTSIDE THE WOMB, there will never be an earnest attempt to HELP LIFE become safer and healthier, BECAUSE way too many PRO-LIFERS have the mantra that the American Jesus is a General, one who must be Militant, Ruthless, and Hateful.

 

As long as this NATION permits PACS/BRIBES/DARK MONEY/PAY TO PLAY/the people in Congress and running for Congress, will remain BEHOLDEN to the PUPPET MASTERS who place their own fame and fortune over the WELFARE of the majority of the citizens.

 

And as I see it, the more, people who refuse to vote for MORALITY, VALUES, JUSTICE, EQUALITY, DEMOCRACY, FAIRNESS…who think elections do not matter, who look at the moment in which they live rather the possible better future…who vote for the current crop of ANARCHIST, FASCIST, AUTHORITARIAN, CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST loving REPUBLICANS…who REFUSE to look at HISTORY…THE MORE THIS GENERATION is setting a terrible standard for any generation that comes next!

 When the NAMES of CRUZ/RUBIO/McCONNELL/PUTIN-GREENE/BOEBERT decidedly take a stand against or for something, WAKE UP AMERICA and smell the Bull Shit, because these FOLKS are never on the GOOD SIDE of MORALS or JUSTICE or EQUALITY; NOPE they always are the like the VARMIN who eat away at the dying bodies and are only saying and doing the words and actions benefiting their own depraved sense of self. Add to that the NAMES of ABBOTT/De SANTIS/PAUL, and of course, you will discover even more insidious politicians whose only desire in life is to become KING! Then of course there are the names of COLLINS/MURKOWSKI/ROMNEY always shocked and full of awe as the BAD THINGS they either voted for or remained silent in criticizing CONTINUE to TRANSPIRE! When you DO NOT VOTE to at least debate policies making access to GUNS more restrictive, YOU have DECIDED that DEATH BY GUN is less important than your own POLITICAL ENDEAVORS. Raphael (INSULT MY FATHER, PLEASE, but let me SCAPEGOAT my kids) CRUZ, JR. has decided that limiting the entrance and exits to one or two doors will somehow OUT GUN any GUN PERSON wishing to shoot up INNOCENTS as they sit in their classrooms. Forget the whole idea of emergency exits.  Of course, RAPHAEL would say something as IGNORANT as that considering he is the TOP INCOME EARNER from CORPORATIONS that sell and manufacture guns. Then we have MITCH, the real guy running this country (J Edger Hoover used to retain that title, holding tightly to the balls of those actually elected by the people) McCONNELL’s supply of BRIBES will never dry up, and one might imagine, who has a whole lot of cash stashed in way too many off-shore accounts.

The year 2022 began with an attempted COUP, then the undressing OF THE WHITE ROBE AND HOOD, the discovery that THE ENEMY OF THIS NATION is actually way too many elected POLITICIANS, and currently a FALSE FLAG used to SCAPEGOAT minorities of people pretending that because they are NOT like the BULLYS of this world, they are the enemy!

 

I hold on to HOPE, even as my skin crawls due to the INTENTIONAL LIES and LOATHING concocted by the INTELLIGENCIA of the REPUBLICAN PARTY to be used as a form of RAT POISON, or is it JONESTOWN COOL AID, hoping the RACISTS AND BIGOTS, (you know the MERCENARIES OF MADNESS, the Lower Tier of the Base) act as the leaders of a WITCH HUNT; with the fires, they start, seemingly the demise of DEMOCRACY!

 

But today, I read an article from the GUARDIAN, and LO AND BEHOLD a DEMOCRAT has actually begun to fight back, and not acquiesce, act the coward.  EUPHOBIA: The fear of good news…WHO KNEW there was such a thing. And WHO KNEW, I actually might be suffering from this newly discovered, at least for me, PHOBIA! I have been in a gloomy grimy grim frame of reference for quite a while. I was certain with the defeat of TRUMP and his attempted COUP, life in America could get better, but wishing so, (WISHING FOR GOOD NEWS), seemed to backfire, and once again a not elected by the majority of voters president, emerged, this time by the name of McCONNELL! My embracing of GOOD NEWS, seemed more of an omen, a warning that to believe in GOOD, before GOOD actually has a firm foundation, is BAD!

According to a few PHOBIA sites, there are 100 PHOBIAS listed, but the Mental Health Workers add as a footnote, that there might be at least two dozen more unaccounted for. Alphabetically, the list begins with Achluophobia/fear of darkness, and ends with zoophobia/fear of animals, and the myriad of names and descriptions is mind-boggling! 

 

I have found myself wondering about my CURRENT REALITY, often questioning why I worry about the BAD NEWS, and somehow am fearful of the GOOD NEWS…and in doing so I realized that REALITY may be just a relevant reminder of the IMMEDICAY OF MY LIFE. And even if MY life seems to be on a positive road AHEAD, there is MORE to the REALITY in which I find myself living, because as I see it, happiness is not just a self-contained isolated instance, but indeed it SHOULD BE an adjunct to my greater community. And right now, I worry dearly for MY GREATER COMMUNITY!

 The newest HUE AND CRY, erupting from the mouths of the TRUMP CHRISTIAN NATIONALISTS, almost as intense as projectile vomit, IS "resisting the great replacement," a racist philosophy espoused by white nationalists. Be alert, be afraid, beware, because, this time, the idea of the OTHER, has been embraced not only by the insecure, inept, and ignorant but has been adopted as a slogan by way too many candidates running for office as REPUBLICANS, are using almost as a sign of PURITY.

Once upon a time the hate for the Immigrant, the Jew, the Gay, and the Black, was hidden under the white sheets and hoods of the KKK. Now, almost in concert with the rise of TRUMP and his MAGA minions, the invisibility of RACISM and the PHOBIAS of ANTI-SEMETISM-XENOPHOBIA-HOMOPHOBIA, are no longer the stuff we find when we turn over a large rock, but fermenting on the buses, the stages, the home pages, the banners of POLITICIANS who have decided that there is a WHITE CHRISTIAN AMERICA and NOT AN AMERICA for anyone else!

Once the DREAD was about to completely smother me and RUIN this fantastic day, I went to my iTunes Playlist, and wham bam thank you to The Mama’s and Papa’s, Dusty Springfield, Simon and Garfunkle, and The Righteous Brothers. I suddenly found myself back to years when the Future Could Be Mine, Hope was not just a cute word on a T-Shirt, and Safety actually seemed safe. Musk and Bezos, I imagine, have no idea how during the pandemic, human beings whose jobs, businesses, and professions were almost decimated due to closures, cutbacks, and lack of customers tried to survive. Even for Middle-Class citizens who may not live from paycheck to paycheck, money coming in was scarce, let alone the hourly worker who without that week's salary, has NO FALLBACK! Musk and Bezos, I believe have no concept of how I will feed my family, pay for their health care, and clothe them.
