Here I was, once again, stuck in the locker room at 24 hour Fitness with a whole bunch of men my age, all using their Silver Sneaker Membership as was I. I have noticed at least at my gym, men my age seem to feel that the locker room is their own personal changing space, one in which they use the benches made for four people as a dressing table and luxury spa. Saturday’s are a very busy day at 24 Hour and I made the mistake of finishing my workout around Noon, when men my age all were ready to head out of the gym also. All I wanted to do was get my gym bag and leave…but NO, I had to wait and while I was waiting just to get close to my locker I was stuck having to listen to the news entertainment of MSNBC from the TV hanging on the locker room wall. These prima donna men my age taking up all the available space were already a pain in my ass, but the Republican Talking Heads on MSNBC made my headache turn into a Migraine.
There was this female person all coiffed with her chain of pearls around her neck also wearing her white privilege, lamenting that even though the Republicans acted in a naughty way regarding the nomination of Merrick Garland by President Obama, the Dems should take the higher road and NOT obstruct Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch. She spoke as if Mitch McConnell’s refusal to abide by his Constitutional responsibilities was just grade school antics and the Dems should let bygones be bygones. And of course as is the case on most cable news outlets, no one bothered to argue any facts at all. I finally found my rudeness, excused myself pushed my way between a man clipping his toe nails and another placing lotion on parts of his body that no other human being should have seen. I grabbed my bag, and scrambled out of that section of the locker room.
Wanting to change my tank top into a T-shirt I did need some space and then meandered over to the second section of the locker room. This was less crowded with the Silver Sneaker gang and more filled with the perfect teeth, eyebrows, and leaned body young-in’s, who have a habit of ignoring anyone over the age of 25. I was safe here as I was invisible, and had space to change, but tuned on the TV hanging in this section was CNN, and the talking head was another female again wearing her white privilege, arguing that the Dems are the obstructionists and have no good reason for even considering blocking Gorsuch’s nomination. Her reason was that there is no Russian connection between Trump and any one from his campaign, and that in fact Obama and Hillary are at the root of this make believe story. And once again, no one argued with this alternative fact. I could not get out of the gym fast enough. Since Putin won the November election i stopped watching any news on television, mainly because, the stupid still get their voices heard, the alternate facts still get air time, an nothing ever gets solved, just highlighted, mentioned as if it is the truth. Men my age in the locker room, pretty boys with pretty teeth and eyebrows in the locker room and the ignorance of the arrogant have become way too much for me to handle all at one time.
