M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

As a kid, we heard a corny joke from our Social Studies Teacher, Ms. Mac Ateir (who knew teachers could tell jokes? Ms. Mac Ateir, also stopped class one day while teaching my seventh-grade class, when a student shouted “God Damn, as his desk lid slammed his fingers while he was trying to get a book out from the desk, Ms. Mac Ateir shouted, “THIS IS AMERICA AND WE WILL NEVER USE GOD’S NAME IN VAIN) Her joke was: “What has four I’s but can’t see…M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I”

Sadly, Mississippi is still a joke, uses God as a scapegoat, and still can’t seem to see anything that is not bigotry, phobia, anti-educational, or democratic. Mississippi's poverty rate of 19.7 percent ranks it dead last in the U.S. Mississippi ranks 47 in educational achievement. The health research organization's "Scorecard on State Health System Performance" ranked Mississippi No. 51. Mississippi voted 57.5% for Trump and 41% for Biden in 2020, and 54.1% for Cindy Hyde-Smith( R), and 44% for Mike Espy ( D) in 2020.

“The Supreme Court has consistently held that abortion before viability is an unqualified right; the state has no reason to question women on the reason they have made this difficult choice," BUT: Mississippi Republican Gov. Tate Reeves signed a law Wednesday that bans abortion based on the race, sex or genetic anomalies of a fetus, adding new limits in a state that already has some of the strictest abortion laws in the U.S………On Thursday, Gov. Tate Reeves signed “the Mississippi Fairness Act” into law, requiring the state’s schools to designate teams by sex assigned at birth and prohibiting transgender student-athletes from participating in school sports in accordance with their gender identity. AND: One state resident, Katy Binstead, said in a news conference last week, however, that the law will make things even harder for her transgender daughter, who “faces bullying on a daily basis” at her middle school……… Mississippi’s lifetime voting ban strips citizens of their right to vote for many offenses, such as writing a bad check or stealing wood. THUS: It disproportionately harms African-American voters. It even lets legislators decide whose voting rights to restore. And it’s unconstitutional for all of those reasons, according to a suit filed today on behalf of Mississippians seeking to regain their right to vote……… Mississippi has, to date 75,000 unused vaccines for COVID, due to the denial of White Conservative Christian Male to sign up and the fact that a majority of the population needing the vaccine are people of color and live in very rural areas and have few options of delivery. In Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves says masks will no longer be mandatory. Just encouraged. (NBC News) One has to wonder, ONE, might WONDER, what the fuck MISSISSIPPI!
