The camera pans into a room, with stuffed leathered chairs, floral wallpaper in greens, and pinks that seem to cushion the space, almost smothering its surroundings. The camera then slowly moves to the left, catching the large wide opening of a Victrola phonograph. From there the camera seems to slide down the neck of this classic musical innovation. Suddenly, we see two hands, very veiny with sullen-looking skin surrounding the ten fingers, that of a person who was not quite young enough to have lived during the heydays of the Victrola, but old enough to have had a grandparent who might have spent time swaying back and forth to the tin sounds, and the shrill soprano’s emitted as the music spun round and round. A record of thick black vinyl is placed on the rotating table, the same hands carefully place the arm holding the needle, and a scratchy and feeble song is heard, one by Louis Armstrong as it spins it spews the words, “I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom, for me and for you. And I think to myself what a wonderful world.” (What A Wonderful World/Thiele &Weiss)
As quickly as the first verse is bouncing across the room, we see a large hand slide across the record, scratching sounds erupt, the words no longer are understandable, and we hear “THIS IS NOT A WONDERFUL WORLD!” THIS IS 2021!
The camera jolts to the far wall, a large 55 inch TV is hanging from it as if it was a framed photograph. The camera once again pans onto two hands; but this time, the flesh is more robust, pliable, and moving down to the fingers we notice a red remote facing the TV. Almost like clockwork we watch the flicking of a wrist in 5-second intervals, and now we hear: Brett Kavanaugh, a troubled teen and college student, claims young people if they do a crime can spend their life in jail…the Ron DeSantis, brag about mowing down protestors in Florida…Oath Keepers reminding us January 6 was just the start…Kevin McCarthy lie about the words Trump told him during the INSURRECTION, pretending that Trump tried to stop the riot…The Supreme Court GOP Activist Justices, letting state’s override any gun laws restricting the use of Assault Weapons…Tucker Carlson promoting Anti-Sematic conspiracy theories…Laura Ingraham decrying foul, that the Jury in the Derek Chauvin Trial were nothing but Leftist prejudiced lackey’s…The Arizona State Republican Party with the assistance of QAnon still counting the votes in CERTAIN communities regarding the outcome of the 2020 election…SUDDENLY, the camera shifts back to the Victrola, and the veiny hands, shaking and gyrating place the vinyl on the turntable, the needle on the record and all we hear are the words “I see… and then, the same voice with the thunderous echo to it shouts, THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE!
