the blame dance

In many episodes of the TV series Will and Grace, Grace Adler would lament the fact that her mother would, when trying to prove a point, do the ‘I told you so dance’. Mrs. Adler would hum a tune as she paraded around Grace all full of herself gyrating back and forth. “I told you so, I told you so, singing the little ditty to prove to Grace just how wrong she was in her calculations of life and how right her mother often times thought she was. Mrs. Adler thought this ‘in your face’ response would solve any issue, when all it did was to frustrate Grace that much more.

The comedy writers demonstrated in a humorous fashion that some decisions are always wrong, first impressions mostly too abrupt, and common sense sometimes may be ill fitted to the current situation. They added that avoidance of the facts can be humorously funny and the consequences presented by not accepting it, may lead to someone eating crow and having to witness the ‘I told you so’ dance.

In politics 2011 American style the ‘I told you so dance has morphed into the ‘I blame you dance’. It is used by the comedy writers for politicians, news casters and individuals who love to force a lie and never want to face the truth. It is the reason du jour whenever a real answer is necessary to solve a problem, never solving anything but instead adding incendiary fuel to enlarge the flame of blame. Pointing ones finger away from self toward anyone else, is the beginning of the ‘I blame you dance’, and in doing so it creates confusion based on the empty and removes conversation based trying to make it full.

Today, the comedy writers for the Republican/Baggers now are doing the ‘I blame you dance’ to the tune of President Obama it is your fault that the price of gasoline is so high. Never ones to try and look into the past, reviewing their input to the issue, the Republican/Baggers have accused the Presidents approval of the riots for democracy in Northern Africa, his unwillingness to drill baby drill, his expression for the acceptance of clean energy as to why we as Americans are facing higher prices at the pump. Of course the rise of gasoline has nothing at all to do with the catering to the Oil Cartel during the Bush/Cheney Republican lead Congress which did away with incentives for clean energy, lack of regulations in oil production, invading Iraq for oil profits.

And helping America to learn how to use less carbon based energy would not help the Oil Cartel, the lobbyists for the Republican/Baggers, retain a profitable bottom line, so any positive advancement for less foreign oil consumption, new sources of energy can not and should not be addressed. Better to do the ‘I blame you dance’, then try to find consensus for all Americans and help defray the cost at the pump. And God forbid, the Republican/Baggers even approach their God-Father Oil Cartel Masters and ask them to make a billion less in profit this year so we can keep the price of gasoline down saving the unemployed, underemployed, barely employed from going broke trying to go to work.

The ‘I blame you dance’ is a jig that has been played over and over in recent politics by the Republican/Bagger comedy writers. Governor Scott Walker dances to it as he blames the unions need for collective bargaining as the root cause for the deficit in his state. Adulterers like Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump, and liars of the National Organization for Marriage blame the deterioration of heterosexual marriage on the Gays. Half Governor Sarah Palin danced to it as she accused the ‘Lame Street Media’ for blocking her ability to run the state of Alaska as her own private playground. And the current batch of newly elected Republican/Bagger Congress People dance wildly as they blame the Progressives for wanting too much big government as they the Bagger Brigade only prefer government be big when it is in our bedrooms doctors office and raising of our children.

It was a hoot anticipating the ‘I told you so’ dance by Mrs. Adler. Grace anticipated it, angst-ed over it and finally acquiesced to it. We saw it coming and it usually came at the end of that week’s episode. Anytime something goes awry in this country with root causes emanating from poor decisions by politicians bathed in blood money from lobbyists out for only bottom lines we also know that the “I blame you’ dance will soon make its appearance. The problem is unlike Will and Grace, this episode for most American’s continues and continues. The laugh track dies and we all we get is blame with never ever hearing the ‘I can fix it’ dance.

The motto of many a Republican/Bagger politico is change the subject, point out the meaningless, deny ownership and dance the ‘I blame you’ dance.

It just isn’t funny!
