Remember when some silly middle aged over weight lady was wearing a trifold piece of paper for a hat and had tea bags dangling in front of her face. Remember when men with muskets riding horses dressed as Paul Revere paraded on town greens. Remember when we were told that the Tea Baggers were a grass root organization before we found out that every blade of grass was paid for by the Koch Brothers. Remember when the Progressive Journalists on MSNBC laughed and guffawed about the silly, inane antics of these Pre-Revolutionary War wanna be's. Remember not telling your Evangelical Christian friends that in fact the Founding Fathers did not want to establish a national religion no matter what their bigoted preachers shout from their Sunday pulpits.
Remember when the darlings of the Tea Baggers were women like... Sarah Palin, half term governor so riddled with political scandal she had to resign her post so not to be put to trial...Christine O'Donnell who only when she was found out reluctantly had to deny her witchcraft ways... Sharron Angle who said and said again if the ballot doesn't work then there is the bullet...Michelle Bachman thinking Jesus wrote the Constitution. Remember when those ladies were an embarrassment to everyone except those who found them all to be of moral and ethical standards. Remember as a woman when ownership of your own body was less important then permitting the government to tell you what you could and could not do with your reproductive rights.
Remember Richard Nixon, Joe McCarthy, Dick Cheney, J.Edgar Hoover, Karl Rove, Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Anita Bryant, the Ceos' of AGI, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Ann Coulter. Remember how once there was no suffrage for women, slavery was the norm, men in white robes ruled the South, students at Kent were shot, Habeas Corpus was ruled as not necessary, the claim on a Bible that there were weapons of mass destruction, the outing of Valerie Plame.
Remember when you thought if you were not a Gay, or a Muslim, or a Working Woman, or a Woman Raped, or Never Bullied in School, or in a Union, or a Child Born in this Country even though your parents were here Illegally, or of Hispanic Decent, or Living a Middle Class Life...that the Tea Bag Brigade were doing the right thing for America. Remember when you did not stop the madness, thinking it was just madness, thus unimportant.
Remember when we all could have paid more attention to the lies, fabrications, propaganda, bigotry, bias and falsehoods fed to us by people draped in the flag, smothered in Bibles, swimming in abridged versions of the Constitution. Remember when we had the power to vote, to encourage others to vote, to vote for equality, freedom and justice and we didn't take advantage of that power.
If we don't watch out all we will be able to do is remember all of that until we are told just what it is we are permitted to remember, until we are told remembering that is so Un-American.
It is not too late to remember that we can change our future.
