“When you have mastered numbers, you will in fact no longer be reading numbers, any more than you read words when reading books You will be reading meanings.” /W. E. B. Du Bois
In 1998, Linda M. Hooper, principal of Whitwell Middle School in Whitwell, Tennessee, asked Assistant Principal David Smith to find a voluntary after-school project to teach the children about tolerance. David Smith and Sandra Roberts started a Holocaust education program and held the first class in the fall of 1998. Soon the students were overwhelmed with the massive scale of the Holocaust and asked Mrs. Hooper if they could collect something to represent the lives that were exterminated during the Holocaust. Mrs. Hooper responded that they could if they could find something that related to the Holocaust or to World War II Through Internet research, the students discovered that Norwegians wore paperclips on their lapels during World War II as a silent protest against Nazi occupation. The students decided to collect 6,000,000 paper clips to represent the estimated 6,000,000 Jews killed between 1939 and 1945 under the authority of the Nazi government of Adolph Hitler

It matters not, about the many when and if you seem to be the lucky one untouched by the tragedy of loss or sorrow. We know this when “thoughts and prayers” are the recommended sustenance used as a generic form of sympathy. We know this when a female desires control of her reproductive anatomy, while others try hard to deny her that form of justice. We know this when we are told laws are not meant for you if your God is not named Jesus, your skin is not white, and the love of your life or the one you sexually yearn for is of the same sex, by people who can and will believe in their chosen God, use the privilege of their skin tone, and have as many heterosexual escapades as they wish. The thing about too many people identified as human, these days is that selfishness has become some kind of virtue, to brag, boast and bully!
