Some Wars

When schools pivoted to virtual learning early in the pandemic, the National School Lunch Program was thrown into chaos. Millions of children rely on school meals to keep hunger at bay, so school nutrition directors scrambled to adopt new, creative ways to distribute food to families. Some of these changes were improvements on the status quo, they say…"It was a game changer," says Donna Martin, who heads the school nutrition program, in Burke County, Ga., a rural district that has a high rate of food insecurity. Food, health, welfare, promise, purpose, pride, SURVIVAL…Security, safety, empathy, inclusion, motivation, peace, SURVIVAL. Some simple requirements, we are told in order to remain HUMAN. Unconditional parental love, the village it takes to comfort and provides, family, sometimes friends acting as a family to act as support, all necessary ingredients for a recipe of LIFE. What happens when all of the above becomes none of the above or even just some of the above?

War rages in Ukraine, families murdered, destroyed. War rages in Texas and Florida as the LGBTQ citizens are treated as leppers, the ENEMY. War rages in Idaho, Missouri as women and their reproductive organs are somehow now considered government property. War rages in Georgia, Arizona, as people of color are once again deemed as chattel as property as second-class beings, with little to no right to vote. War still rages in the USA, as simple-minded fools, pretend that SCIENCE AND MEDICINE are somehow tools of the DEVIL. And war will be declared once again upon the Nutritional Needs of children, those who happen to have been born into POVERTY!
