Norman Lear

Norman Lear has been a pioneer in the field of television, creating a diversity of programs with characters who based their views on bias, lived their lives thinking bigotry was a sign from God, and difference a sin instead of a blessing. Mr Lear understood that sometimes the lowest common denominator is the key to communication, and communicating truth. Deservedly so, Norman Lear is one of the recipients of this years Kennedy’s Honors. Mr Lear has demonstrated great valor at times, when to argue with the imposed norms of the government was not that healthy for a career.

But for me, it is Norman Lear’s most recent creation that I applaud and say thanks. In the past it has been the norm for all Kennedy Honor recipients to be hosted by the person sitting in the White House, the Commander-in-chief. Cool, I suppose, to not only be honored for your gift to the world in the arts, but to meet with the person who at that point in time is the guy (Wish it was Hillary) in charge of a whole lot of this and that. But Mr Lear has decided that he IS NOT a hypocrite and will not join Trump and Melania for the White House reception. How could, he, Norman Lear, in good conscience spend an intimate hour or so with a man whose disdain for the freedoms that art provides, the diversity that the arts provide, the life the arts provide; and who has made it his effort to defund arts in America?

By not attending this reception, Norman Lear has been one of the most honest people in America, stating that Trump's ascendency to the White House is illegitimate, irregular, and an insult to the democracy which so far has been the glue to keep this nation from becoming Putins Palace. No one has the backbone to call Trump a liar, no one has the spine to insist that if there is no Russian collusion stop talking about it and cooperate, what is there to lose in stating the truth?  Everyone still invites his Spawns, like KellyAnne, Stephen Miller, and Sarah Huckabee to spew vicious lies and innuendo, permitting the lie to live and linger longer. I give a standing ovation to Norman Lear for stating the obvious, that Trump is an IMPOSTER. I hope, perhaps others will finally find their backbone and stop validating the venom falling from the mouths of anyone Trump and Trump himself.
