There is either good or evil, in this era of Trump. We all need to be honest with ourselves, and stop pretending that, there is some kind of middle ground. Some kind of looking the other way, turning the other cheek, or pretending that if evil is not recognized, and stopped, there will be a time to turn back, when in fact there will be, NO turning back. Truth be told this nation’s intentions of we the people, was a great concept, and democracy, in theory, was an ideal with great merit. From the beginning of the Revolution, when women were still chattel, and slavery a means of industry, as if the men and women of color were like cattle, and the Indigenous North Americans considered nothing but pagans, and an obstacle to keeping this a religious nation (even though in premise we had no sanctioned religion!) The Civil War never ended, and the words never really followed the deeds to end segregation or racism, and the giveaway was the consensus that permitting shrines and monument to an insurgent government was okay!
We fought the Nazi’s during the Second World War, cheered and shouted that Fascism did not make for freedom, and we continuously found enemies from nations built on Communistic Philosophy, to the point where annihilation of the entire human species and the other living creatures of this planet would happen in a wham-bam no thank you ma’am flash of atomic bombs dropping like snowflakes in a blizzard. Yet now, we permit the South to Rise Again, we invite Communist nations to indulge and interfere in our elections, and we watch as a political party relishes the Fascist machinations of a current hacked into office president.
Women’s reproductive rights are once again on the docket of a Supreme Court rigged, and activist, Gay rights will be next, and we openly build Concentration Camps on our land, and ignore the pure sense that this land has since its origin welcomed the tired and poor of the world, to find freedom and equality. Perhaps the only good thing that has erupted from the trump era is that the truth hidden so delicately about the fragility of our democracy has been ripped open and is now a sore oozing with bacteria. But the evil thing about the Trump era is that lies, fiction, crime, hypocrisy, graft, grifting, greed, and gluttony have surfaced and ae smothering any and all attempts to even consider our Constitution a piece of toilet paper, ready to flush away. If not now when is the question…if not now, when will we stop Evil from becoming the norm, and the baseline from which everything that follows in the future, finds its basis!
