Guns still kill, discussions regarding guns are still dead, there are still misconceptions regarding the meaning, purpose, and practice of the 2nd Amendment. Betsy DeVos, Education Secretary believes the safety in schools has little to do with guns, but more so the amount of use by students and the popularity by students for video games, and if we are to talk about school violence, we must begin that conversation speaking in greater detail about who uses video games, and their impact on violence in schools. Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, promised a Round Table discussion would take shape in a few weeks, right after the latest massacre of kids happened in Sante Fe Texas, this time he proudly promised, demonstrating as best he could a real concern for the lives lost rather than the reputation lost by the gun makers and the NRA. It is a few weeks after the Sante Fe shooting, and as is the norm when we live in a world of Ground Hog Day…guns still, discussions regarding guns are still dead, there are misconceptions regarding the meaning, purpose, and practice of the 2nd Amendment, and since most schools are shutting down for the summer, the issue of school safety shall be stacked away in some musty building, building soot and dust, and dirt until the next time a gun kills!
Suicide, is a killer, if you are an anonymous person, or perhaps a young person confused about gender, a Veteran still traumatized by the job you completed while in the Military, a homeless individual who just can’t find purpose or your place on the street, if you are kid bullied by your peers, if you are moving so slow while the world around you is flying by, if you are any of these people, but no one with a recognizable name, someone of fame or fortune, you may decide to commit the act of suicide, be mourned, by some or be absolutely forgotten by many, but your death will be a statistic. If you happen to be a Public figure, a known name, a Personality and you are suffering the same mental illness that the majority of nameless and unknown people suffer, but you feel there is no other way to face the world than to end your world, suddenly the issue of suicide will become relevant. Talking heads will insist we need more direct and open channels to discuss Mental Illness, not keep it in the closet, not scandalize even the mere mention of the word suicide. There will be great conversations, talk shows will find experts, experts will become Talking Heads, the topic de jour will be mental health…that is until only the lonely and the unknown are the ones ending their lives…and then like most causes that may have cures, the discussion of suicide will die, until once again someone famous commits that act.
Trump lies then denies the lie, only to reinforce the lie again. The peons, and puppets all wanting to seek fame from a known narcissist and pathological liar will pretend that the world is just jealous of such a great man, and all of this with the power to make change will NOT move a finger, using any hyperbole, or hypocrisy to insist that there is wrong and then there is Trump. We will act shocked, and amazed that trump can break dozens of laws, and get away with every crime. We will pretend that embarrassing Trump bu showing him the truth will make him change his ways. We will huff and puff but Trump’s house will never blow down. And each day one more new bit of evidence will appear to have this impeached, jailed, removed or actually placed in a mental institution…but nothing will happen, and once again as the sun rises we will repeat the same frustrations and wonder how Trump is still in office. Over and over again, we will remain the same, talking about moving ahead, but only to stand still.
