Too Old School

Moms, Dads, Spouses, someone’s child, someones loved one, someone everyone knew, someone, we had no idea even existed, someone wealthy, someone poor, someone religious, someone agnostic, someone who JUST went about their daily routine, to make it through another day, SOMEONE, exactly like us or someone so entirely different, someone, innocently, painfully, pitifully, pathetically, with promise and future prosperity…someone with no intention but to live another day…died on September 11, 2001

Almost 2000 First Responders had died from toxic exposure, during their heroic, Patriotic, and of course human desire to save lives, when America realized that from sea to shining sea, where great lyrics are written in a song to make us feel proud; but no longer were words to describe the freedom from intentional terrorism! More are suffering from an environment once declared by the EPA safe, inhabitable, and hundreds of those innocents are continuing suffering, from painful, ailments connected to a ticking time bomb called death.

Our wars with the supposed enemy have continued, more dead and dying, and more scapegoats invented to keep us feeling less secure but undoubtedly brave enough to act like a bully. Monuments have been erected, moments of silence have found their way into our society, but have floundered in their pomp and circumstance. We watched, we waited, we were defiled but swore we were dedicated to democracy, to decency, to direct our lives to end the horrific happenstance of something as heart-wrenching as 9/11.

Seventeen years ago, an act of aggression upon our sovereign nation ALMOST, found the majority of Americans, and the majority of the world, coming together to fight for a common cause. ALMOST, but then time moves fast, it moves on and what we lost, what we longed for began to lag and it failed is place in the priority of personal needs. Of course, politics understood the value of placing blame, benign in fixing it and politicians breathed in heavily the bias and bigotry this disaster exhaled. Thousand died, and we shed our tears du jour and that as that!

Mass shootings in America, dictators with missiles murdering their own population, Racism, Misogyny, Bigotry, Hate, Fear, Homophobia, still abound, never really ever gone but hidden in the rubble of the fallen Twin Towers. And now in a land which swore democracy could nor would ever die, faces a phony Commander-In-Chief, hacked into office by a foreign power, enabled to remain aloof by a Republican Party knowingly offered by their own party platform. And oh yeah, we are more concerned that, with the use and honor of free speech, people are Taking a Knee to express their perceptions of the failure of our Government!

November 11, 2001 murder, mayhem, and disregard for mere mortals came to this nation. November 11, 2018, all of THAT just seems a bit Old School, as if it was only another part of history ignored by so many!
