A Mystery

When I was a college aged man back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, Art Films were the really cool place to be found hanging out on a weekend night. That is when I became educated in understanding the difference between a movie and a film. If it was low budget, gritty, often times had subtitles, usually black and white, and dealt with the taboo subjects of the day and of course something your parents never heard of, it was an Art Movie. If you were on a date, you might not choose this particular film, but if you didn’t call it a date, just a time out with friends, Art Films were just the thing. (I was never cool enough to first smoke a joint before going to the movie theater, but total coolness at the time was to be a bit stoned, as if doing so would make you a real maven about the film.)

It was the late sixties and early seventies, so the Cold War was still an interesting topic, along with the dominance of superpowers and their ability to embrace espionage. Spies, double spies, were suave debonaire, and a really well written and directed film would leave the audience wondering until the last minute, to answer the question who did it! (These Art Films also showed lots of sex scenes, uncensored, or at least censored less than the regular movies, so sometimes it was the bad guy having all of the good sex) Being a young adult in that era brought the stress of the possibility of a third world war, and highlighted, just how many ways were possible to defeat our fragile democracy. No  emails or texts at the time, but lots of ways to communicate and retrieve communication from and by the enemy.

During this election cycle, I thought I had figured it out, as to why Hillary had been the target of email links. It made sense to me that Julian Assange, who hated Hillary would do his best to try and disgrace her. he also made it clear that most governments were nothing but tyrants. Then it made more sense that Putin, so afraid of the power of Hillary would love to see her lose the election, and by doing this could spit in the eye of President Obama. What never made sense t me was why not go after Trump’s emails. I was of course pissed thinking that Trump was just a stooge for Putin, you know the pay to play  town idiot, but yesterday I read an article from Mother Jones magazine, which made my head spin. It seems a spy for the US has been following Trump’s cozy relationship with the Putin government for 5 years. And it seems that within that time period, Trump (The man made of teflon) had been compromised by the Russian government. Like a good mystery, the obvious always seems just obvious…but according to a few sources, Trump’s servers were also hacked, and according to this article and the spymaster who provided the information, the information was devastating, to not unhinge Trump, actually blow his facade down to the ground. I knew there was something odd, and now I believe the mystery is making sense.
