moments so dear

“Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes

Five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure? Measure a year?” (Seasons of Love/Jonathan D. Larson)

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a total of at least 19,394 people lost their lives due to gun violence in 2020. Including suicides, that number jumps to 43,550 people.

As of Sunday, the group tallied at least 5,517 non-suicide deaths in 2021, on track for a similar total to 2020. Another possible cause: the uptick in gun sales. 2020 marked the best year for gun sales ever. The rush for firearms began with the first coronavirus lockdowns and continued through the summer's racial justice protests. At least 20 million guns were sold legally, up from about 12.4 million in 2019.

“Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty five thousand journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure a life of a woman or a man?” (Seasons of Love/Jonathan D. Larson)

As an American, I imagine that about the same total of “THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS”-“IT IS TOO SOON TO TALK ABOUT CHANGE”-“ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS TAKE MY GUNS AWAY”-and “MY SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS ARE SENT BY GOD”, were offered as an excuse; to permit murder mayhem and massacre. This is a disease a cunning as cancer, as contagious as COVID, as corrupt as Capitalistic greed and gluttony!

Experts, though, say that it can be a challenge to isolate any single cause, particularly during the pandemic with mass unemployment and closed schools……..HUH/WHAT/DUH. Seems the same people who HAVE NO IDEA, AS TO WHAT TO DO, know how to stop a woman’s right to her reproductive rights/deny transgender people to choose a bathroom/invalidate democracy and ballots/ lead and INSURRECTION! “In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in a life?” (Seasons of Love/Jonathan D. Larson)
