Usually around 2:00 am until dawn, or on those Sundays in February once the Football Season is finished, especially during the years when Cable TV did not exist, American audiences would suddenly find themselves inundated with the dreaded INFOMERCIAL. Maybe the first time we watched them we laughed, but the 100th or millionth time we became exasperated, and our senses tried their best NOT TO BE DUMBED DOWN. I am certain, that many of us have a longer list than I have mentioned, but no matter the subject matter, if it was or is an INFOMERCIAL, it showcased the very stupidest of the stupid in American culture.

 

For me, the two Republican Debates for the office of President were nothing but the worst of the worst of any imagined INFOMERCIAL. (And as an aside, how in the world are they called DEBATES, when no clear topic is being debated) The Republican Salespeople on stage were trying to sell useless promises and promotions of ideas that when actually used, would accomplish absolutely nothing. The majority of these Republican Shysters tried to demonstrate some BIG SHINY OBJECT, but if you looked close enough all you got was a piece of junk. And to top it off as some of the worst INFOMERCIALS, the spokespeople were the hired hacks from FOX, where any truth goes to die, and any Lie Lives!

The Past We Borrow

I understand the concept of Yom Kippur is a day of atonement, or as one of my Rabbi’s in Houston would add,” at-one-ment.” Growing up in a predominately Romanian Jewish home in Pittsburgh, I was also warned that if we did not fast, feel the pangs of hunger and thirst, and of course not re-discover and recognize all of our past sins in order to ask for forgiveness, that when our “Book of Life,” was about to close, those of us who did not try hard enough to suffer, would hear a very loud bang, as a warning, as our unique book shut. Back in those days, at least in our home and the homes of our relatives, the superstition included something known as “The Pooh-Pooh People,” who would come out from the shadows, immediately moving their index fingers right to the left, and hissing a very definitive, “tch, tch, tch,” warning us that we might want to feel the suffering a little more and heave heavier sighs as did our ancestors for eons and eons.  

 

I am now a man of many decades, and as I have forged ahead upon the various and sundry roads, leading through the journey of my life, I have developed my own set of traditions, or maybe they too, are superstitions, regarding Yom Kippur. For me, music and lyrics are a form of divine intervention. Where I was, what I thought I felt, how I acted and reacted to the music of my life at a particular time of my life, are for me like the words in a Prayer Book. Those memories also include family and friends, acquaintances, and perceived enemies. For me, there is often a melody that immediately recall, and I instantly remember. Music had settled into my soul and connected with my conciseness causing me perfect vision at times or a blinding shutter of sounds resonating in a myriad of memories, some good, some bad, some of longing, and some having to let go.

 

For this Yom Kippur and the Yom Kippurs of the past, I play music, and songs, which become symphonies. Often I might say how much I loved you, often I might apologize for my misdeeds, often I might ask for forgiveness, and often I might just wish I could hold, hug, kiss, and love, once again. I will listen to “Bushel and a Peck,” recalling my mother singing that song as my siblings and I headed to school. I will listen to “I’ll Be Seeing You,” hearing the stories of my mother and her younger sister, my Aunt Meercy, sharing stories of their early crushes, boyfriends, and their first loves.  I will listen to “Take Me Out To The Ball Game,” still see the look on my father’s face detailing to my siblings and me his successes playing basketball and football, and then I will listen to “Funeral March of a. Marionette “which was better known as the “Theme for the Alfred Hitchcock Show,” reminding me of how my father would watch that show on a Friday night with no lights on and as we came inside on a summer night, he would say, as the black and white light from the television bounced against our darkened living room walls, “never be so afraid as to not use your imagination to figure a way forward.” I will listen to Johnny Mathis’s version of “The Twelfth of Never,” and “Wonderful, Wonderful” missing my oldest sister Maxine, remembering how those songs were a major part of her teen-age years in our house, and recalling her influence on her younger siblings, and me. I will listen to "Tumbalalaika still watching my Grandma Braff’s smile, twinkle in her eyes, and her laughter recalling her youth, swaying ever so effortlessly

 

My Mother, My Father, My Aunt Meercy, My Grandma Braff, my sister Maxine, all a part of Cavalcade of Music, all integral parts of my growing up, and my WHO I AM NOW…all remain as the music in my life, and all helping me to find “at-one-ment.”

In a world void of either, or, many, more, Michelle Miller plays the title role of Queen, deciding whose philosophies are God Given, and whose philosophies are Devil Worship. And I am so tired of the word CONSERVATIVE, used as an excuse for the true words of HATEFUL/PREJUDICED/TERRIFIED/INSECURE/and STUPID. And when you read the article, somehow the same homophobic reaction of a TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE, over the decision of its PERMANENT STAFF, adds to the entire circus when people like Michelle Miller are granted the power to bully and everyone else around them just kowtows, remaining in the shadows!

So, Patriotism is wearing some kind of a tiny flag pin on your jacket lapel, or an eagle tie clip, modest heels for the ladies, and a black or brown Cole Hahn shoe for the Dudes. Wearing the outfit, as your costume or façade, somehow says you and Uncle Sam are Bro’s you and Betsy Ross are gal pals, and of course, what you wear immediately erases how you act, what you think, and the internal loathing you have for anyone that I not you!

 

Be a Senator and ignore the facts and truth about Trump's attempts to overthrow Democracy but do so in Business attire. Take Dark Money, don’t report to whom you actually have been reporting to, enjoy the perks and pleasures of being some kind of American Royalty insisting like Marie Antoinette, to let the peasants eat cake, but as long as you wear a tie, long pants, don’t show your cleavage you are still a Professional.

There are numerous reports of the pair, also drunk, all over each other, making out in public places. This all follows Rep. Safer from what SARAH is, safer from inquiring minds asking simple questions like could you have traveled a less expensive way, like exactly where are you traveling to using the public’s money rather than your own dollars, like who else is freeloading on the tax payers bill?

"TUM"

 “TUM!” That was the exact word my mother would use as she prepared her Rosh Hashanah feast. “TUM,” she would remind us, my siblings and I, as we had to dust the baseboards, take out the “GOOD DISHES,” washing them one at a time, complaining that no one would really care that we dusted, swept, and washed the “GOOD DISHES,” one at a damn time. “TUM, It is the music of the heart, she would remind us as she placed the third cake in the oven, immediately checking on the chicken soup with real pieces of boiled chicken, often times burning her fingers touching one or the other hot pan or dish. My mother, without using too much Jewish mother guilt in her voice, would then say, hardly moving her lips, but using her facial expression to make THE POINT, one day, the “TUM, may try to escape from these holidays”, and then she would become silent, looking at whatever was boiling or baking, or frying on the stove, and celebrating Rosh Hashanah will feel different.” 

As my mother grew a little older, she reluctantly, first permitted my oldest Maxine, to “have the holidays.” That was my mother’s term whenever a holiday was not celebrated at our house, using ONLY my mother’s recipes, her TLC, and her knowledge of just how much or much too much and the ever mysterious, “I just know how to prepare this.” My sister Maxine at first, could bake or cook certain items, but the hard-core meal was still one my mother prepared. Eventually, Maxine got the meal right, my siblings and I would call it the “Rena Way,” (my mother’s name is Rena) and soon only the desserts came from my mother's magical cookbook. (As an aside, to this day, my siblings and do not have a complete list of recipes for most of my mother’s baked goods, or holiday fare. ) But Maxine, and then my older sister Bonnie, became the privileged few to “Have the Holidays,” with my youngest sister Francie eventually getting the Rena-Okay. I wanted to “have the Holidays,” but I was the boy, the only son, and somehow, within the rules and regulations of my mother's interpretation of Jewish Life, I never received the Rena-okay!

 

“TUM,” was indeed the music of the heart, a melody which I sadly had taken for granted, as if that song would play on a continuous loop for the Buncher Family. My mother’s generation of Aunts Uncles, and Relatives, all of whom lived within a 5-mile radius of one another, had passed away, and at first, the traditions of Rena Buncher and her clan, survived, until the circle of life becomes unwound. And as that circle unravels, oftentimes we look forward and not back. Not backward, but back, at the moments of magic and mystic memories. Of course, feigning oblivion, of facts, the GOP insists that somehow, the Biden Administration is the cause and effect of a rise in crime. Alaska. Alaska is widely recognized as the most dangerous state in the US, primarily due to a combination of factors contributing to its remarkably high crime rate of 837.8 incidents per 100,000 people. ...followed by New Mexico, Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Nevada, and Georgia. Most to many which happen to be RED STATES.

 

But I write my BLOG, not to necessarily highlight the crime rates in RED STATES, but to merely mention the fact that the BIGGEST CRIME RATE is on the National Level, as in crime sponsored by and encouraged by the Republican Party who has demonstrated that the crimes of INSURECCTION/ TYRANNY/ ANARCHY/ are somehow okay and acceptable as long as those crimes are committed by TRUMP and his cultists.

 

One more aspect of Republican Hypocrisy is demonstrated by permitting TRUMP to usurp any laws, which he finds inconvenient for his need to overthrow the Democracy of this nation, and this nation's Constitution. TRUMP has become a role model for the Citizenry of this nation, to ignore law and order. The add to that the Republican-appointed Supreme Court Justices, like Alito and Thomas who place their middle finger on the rest of us, insist that law and order never pertain to them. 

 

If the ex-President, Supreme Court Justices, the House of Representatives, Red State Legislators, and Governors, snub the law, well, why wouldn’t the rest of us follow their lead and do the same!

For almost any job, there is a requirement that the applicant understand the mechanics, the rules and regulations, and the business plan for that job. It does not matter if the job is white or blue collar. If you are a clerk in a store, you should be aware of what that store is selling. If you are a teacher, you had to learn how to write a lesson plan. Of course if you are lawyer, or a physician, or even a mad scientist, you had to pass an exam, become licensed, and aware of what and for whom you are providing services.

 

Senator Tommy (Guberville) from Alabama is a US Senator, yet he knows nothing about the various job responsibilities his VERY IMPORTANT OCCUPATION involves. How is it, that our elected officials need no training, no actual work experience, no qualifications to actually do their job…a job, by the way, which affects, education, food services, armed services, health and welfare, atomic weapons, and much, much more. 

 

Senator Guberville, is unqualified to flush a toilet, let alone decide anything about our military. Yet, with the assistance of Senator Mitch McConnell is permitted to play politics with our national security, and stop any furtherance of keeping this nation safe.

We must never forget

 At, 8:14 AM EDT, on September 11, 2001, attacks, commonly known as 9/11, were four coordinated Islamist suicide terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda against the United States. Distrust merged into a form of moral outrage, and moral chaos. Our families, friends, and heroes, perished, innocents all of them. To this day, those of us still alive, still have no 100% of truth, to tell us the story of this tragic event. But ALL of us united for the few years afterward to try and understand how this could have happened, and during those years, how we might prevent it from happening again. This is American History, it happened, it was real, and we should never forget.

Almost 140 years earlier in the United States of America, at 4:30 a.m. on April 12, 1861, Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Harbor. Less than 34 hours later, Union forces surrendered. Traditionally, this event has been used to mark the beginning of the Civil War. Prior to September 11, 2001. Enemies from within, enemies who dressed like us, spoke like us, and many of whom prayed to the common God of American religion like us, decided that all of the rest of us had become the adversary. Basing their decision to attack America, to support their own form of bigotry, bias, hatred, and a loathing for freedom for way too many, and oftentimes basing their disgust on some chapter and verse of their Holy Book, they attacked America. The Union understood that its basic foundations and tenants of origin were about to be demolished, and with great effort and energy, fought back. (NPR) Almost 162 years from the origins of the Civil War, and only 22 years from the September 11^th attack on America, once again for the third time, we have witnessed an attempt to destroy democracy, void personal freedoms and choices, remove any and all guard rails established by our love of liberty, by a group of anarchists, warriors of hate, and a cadre of individuals who have no respect for our Constitution. This is American History, it happened, it was real, and we should never forget. HOWEVER, this time, the majority of Republicans, want us to forget, and to rewrite history.

NIKKI, NIKKI, NIKKI…I suppose living in your Upper-Class Ivory Tower, abiding by the irresponsible and feckless rules and regulations within the Trump Party, aka the GOP, none of which are based on morals or values, justice for all, or liberty for everyone, you suppose that real people are paying no attention to the hateful rhetoric you have spewed, despite your coziness as a Middle-Aged person. It ain’t about age NIKKI, NIKKI, NIKKI, hate and bigotry are not just for the old, irresponsibility and ignorance are not just for the old, prejudice and scapegoating are not traits of the old, denial of fundamental human rights and freedoms actually take place in the hearts, mind, and actions of the NOT SO OLD.

 

NIKKI, NIKKI, NIKKI, say these names out loud, Margie-Putin-Greene, Gym Jordan, Ronnie DeSatan, BOEBERT, Mattie Gaetz, Laura Trump, Enrique Tarrio, Tucker-Putin-Carlson, Kari Lake, Vivek… and as you speak these names out loud, NIKKI, NIKKI, NIKKI, remind yourself that some of these Con Artists are younger than you, and some around your age, and none of them of your generation give one shit about anyone but themselves, except for maybe TRUMP and his boss, Putin.

 

NIKKI, NIKKI, NIKKI, PA-LEEZE, GURL, no one with an IQ higher than a pile of manure, believes that somehow your hatred bigotry, and disregard for the Constitution (remember GURL, you raised your hand and said you would support the Republican nominee) is somehow refreshing because you are not the same age as Joe Biden!

Limit the term

 So, I said to myself, as I read the news, watched the news, listened to the news, imagine if, we had such a thing as TERM LIMITS. You know, I whispered to myself, as in limiting the amount of years a POLITICIAN has to become like AMERICAN ROYALITY. Way back when FDR had run for a third term, the GOP, as only the GOP can do so well, decided that term limits might be a necessary thingie-majiggie, because after all, FDR was way too popular and his popularity might actually be something the average American likes; of course not the average millionaire back in the day, because those folks did not like the idea of the common man or woman, of ever being happy! 

Term limits for the President, but of course not for the Congress, because, the Congress, then and now, like to pretend that their shit never stinks, and if they stay in power almost forever, their shit will act like a form of manure, and fertilize the feeble-minded to remain dumb as shit.

 

So, then I said to myself, never moving my lips but thinking all of this, if we actually had term limits then one of the other anti-democracy tricks of the Congress would also lack relevance like GERRYMANDERED DISTRICTS. With term limits, asswipes like Gym Jordan could remain an asswipe, but after his second term, he would have to NOT be in Congress and have to run again once the newer person finished his or her term. So folks like Gym Jordon might actually have to campaign and actually be held accountable for all of the bull shit they parlayed while in office.

 

For me it is not just about the age of a Congressperson, State of Federal, or the age of a Senator, State of Federal, it is about their ethics, their own bigotries, and biases. And when it comes to hate, age is not the only variable.

 

And then, still having my own conversation with myself, I thought, while I am dreaming of a better way to help democracy thrive, I thought, how about taking money out of politics, as in wealthy people and corporations owning politicians, as in be my puppet and as long as you remain my puppet and do as I say, we will invest in your career; BUT how about actually giving anyone who wants to run for office a Civics Test, or a New Citizens Test, or a Constitution 101 Test?  But then, damn I realized that as long as it is up to Congress to make any changes, and if those changes affect their best interests, nothing is ever going to happen. So, I stopped talking to myself!

Huh, Imperial Presidency!

 The term "imperial presidency" states that the office of President of the United States, akin to a classical ruler of an empire, is the head of state of a geographical, military and economic superpower, has broad executive power and is advised by a bureaucratic staff akin to a classical imperial court. (Wikipedia). 

When Nixon, decided that crime was the only way to remain in office and that as a President he was somehow immune from facing any consequences for committing crime, I believe the term Imperial Presidency actually took real shape and form. After Watergate and the fiasco that Nixon wrought upon the Presidency, supposedly the American Legislative Branch set in motion, a bunch of bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo to ensure that America would never have another NIXON-ESQUE. Nixon, also known as the Watergate Scandal, has established that even a President has a legal duty to provide evidence of one’s communications with his aides when the information is relevant to a criminal case./Consitution.com)  Except like most mumbo-jumbo, all you get is a bunch of blah, blah, blah and little else. Along comes TRUMP, and the term IMPERIAL PRESIDENCY, takes on a whole grander meaning, and like an octopus, the tentacles of the insidious autocrat, start to grab onto the thin threads of democracy and smother it like prey swimming innocently in the ocean. 

 

Section 2, Clause 1 describes exclusive presidential powers: namely, the Commander in Chief authority, the power to require written opinions from the heads of executive departments, and the pardon power. (Constitution.com). Here is the THING, as I see it…WHY! Why is it that the President can somehow excuse criminals by ignoring their crimes? Why is it that the President, especially when he has not been elected by a majority of Americans, hides his own criminal intentions and acts from the public? This nation has witnessed just how human a president can be, and as a human, demonstrating some of the worst traits of humanity as a narcissist maniacal, psychotic, and dangerous.

 

 

Imagine if...

 Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for not meeting with President Biden while he visited the state Friday to survey hurricane damage, calling the decision “absolutely outrageous.” (The Hill)

DeSantis is a coward. DeSantis is afraid. DeSantis has no backbone. Imagine, (and I shudder profusely, to imagine this), if DeSantis became President, and he, (and I doubt he would set foot in any place where disaster happened until it had been cleaned and cleared up), BUT for argument's sake, imagine DeSantis’s complete breakdown if a Governor from that state told DeSantis don’t show up. DeSantis’ office said security concerns for an office already dealing with hurricane recovery made the meeting too burdensome. “In these rural communities, and so soon after impact, the security preparations alone that would go into setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts,” DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern said in a statement. (The Hill)

 

Evil that men do, is intentional evil. Spite, vindictiveness, self-serving selfishness, and sewing seeds of doubt, are the machinations of human invention, and DeSantis, at least in this category ranks very proficient!

 

 

the Art of the CON

As I see it, the ART OF THE CON still remains in the veins of those who once served in the TRUMP White House. Why NOW, if NOT THEN, I plead? How come NOW, it is, let’s say, useful for all of you to come forward, or maybe the words I am searching for are MORE PROFITABLE.

 

Mark Esper, William P. Barr, John Bolton, Stephanie Grisham, Michael Cohen, James Comey, Chris Christi, and Sean Spicer, just to name a few, have suddenly had a ‘MEA CULPA’  (MEA culpa is a phrase originating from Latin that means my fault or my mistake and is an acknowledgment of having done wrong. The expression is used also as an admission of having made a mistake that should have been avoided.) HMMM. 

 

It seems to me that most to all of them, STILL, play most Americans as fools, the same fools while they were kissing the ass of TRUMP! The stench of supposed profits, must have made all of these CON ARTISTS, think that a shave and a shower and a little more perfume would cover up their sordid lives. NOPE!

 

More than age

 Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's alarming health episode this week has just added to a debate over age already dominating the campaign trail. Although it's not clear why the 81-year-old McConnell's appeared to freeze during a news conference -- it nevertheless prompted both candidates and voters to again ask: How old is too old to serve as an elected official -- let alone to serve in the White House? (abc News) 

I am a Baby Boomer, at 73, I fit right smack dab in the upper end of the so-called “Baby Boomer Generation.” I understand the worry and concern younger voters, who happen to NOT BE “BABY BOOMERS,” have expressed, regarding the awareness, realities, and sensitivities of younger generations. Whatever is relevant, now, meaningful now, of importance now, may not actually be on the priority list of a generation once, twice, or three times removed from people the ages of 21 and beyond. 

 

BUT, if I may, let me disagree that AGE, is not necessarily the culprit in having a discourse regarding Politicians. DeSantis is 44, and he has demonstrated contempt for the LGBTQ community and people of color. Nikki Haley is 51 years old and has demonstrated an aversion to Women’s Reproductive Rights, and Immigrants. Matt Gaetz is 44 years old, and he has demonstrated a disregard for Law and Order. Jim Jordan is 59 years old, and he has demonstrated that if you are not TRUMP then fuck you. Tim Scott is 57 years old, and he has demonstrated his lack of morals by acting on the fringe of Politics.

 

AGE, should be addressed, but if it is a VITAL question for younger voters, how come issues like Bigotry/Racism/Homophobia/Xenophobia/Misogyny seem to be excused just because those Politicians happen to NOT BE BABY BOOMERS?

TRUMP and his gaggle of GOP Goons, GOP Gestapo, GOP Insurrectionists, and Seditionists, have made it VERY clear that once TRUMP becomes President, the only justice served, will be by his command, his wishes, and his decisions. 

 

Sadly a WHOLE group of MAGA Cultists, including Republican Politicians, and the Republican Donor Base like the idea of having a Stalin/Hitler/Mao/Ayatollah/Kim Jung-Un/Putin as their newly appointed Dictator-In-Chief, thinking that by doing so, some kind of fucked up version of Freedom/Liberty and Democracy will take place. And yet, if the Pollsters are correct, there are enough self-loathing Americans to make this become reality!
