 For my friends and family and strangers who have felt the wrath of Hurricane Ian, I am so sorry for the burden you have carried, and hope, from my heart, that somehow, there is a way forward for all of you. Not being in the situation you may have found yourself, in during this Hurricane, I can never know, the emotions, stress, and angst you must have experienced, but I do hope, with one day less of that stress tomorrow becomes better. 

Somehow, however, your moments of complete turmoil have become an obnoxious presentation of the news for way too many TV personalities, who seem to crawl all over themselves to pretend that somehow they actually prioritize your sufferings over TV ratings. I have watched the Weather Channel (which should be called the ADVERTISEMENT/COMMERCIAL channel), MSNBC, and CNN, trying to just hear the facts, and discover if there was anything I could do to help. All I witnessed were TV goons trying to outdo the next clown, by standing in the rain, the wind, and the water, as if they were sharing the agony of REAL PEOPLE.

 

From Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel to the myriad of so-called reporters of CNN and MSNBC, each and every person made the coverage of Hurricane Ian, more about their own stupidity than actually homing in on the death and destruction all around them. It was like watching wanna-be superheroes, trying to show how many wind gusts they could muster, how many downed power lines they could fool, as they spent way too much time lamenting about conditions and ignoring the people. Of course, all three networks had to cut to a COMMERCIAL, no matter how severe the weather and the situation.

 

And as always, some, reporters had to then find a person or persons whose entire life had just been wrecked, vying for the audience's attention, only to NOT provide any relief as in THEIR OWN NETWORK helping out!  I can NOT imagine the consequences the victims of Ian are now going through, nor the mental and physical injuries. But, if I hear one more stupid as fuck TV personality say, “hunker down,” “once in a 1000-year event,” or, “most catastrophic disaster” I will implode. It is here, isn’t it clear, that CLIMATE CHANGE is for real? So, how come no EARNEST EFFORT is being made to make a difference?

It will not be the Economy/Inflation/Cost of Living that matters any longer when Freedoms/Liberties are diminished and destroyed; so how in the world can anyone who truly does care about the future, vote Republican!

 I listened to the Emergency Directors for the counties of both Pinellas and Hillsborough located in Florida. As an observer of Hurricane Ian, I am relieved that I can comfortably sit back but frustratingly do very little in direct assistance. I remember living in Pittsburgh with below twenty-degree weather, Houston and my first hurricane and floods, Columbus with a few tornados, LA, with wildfires, and recently on the Cape with both a nor’easter and blizzard and I still can feel my pulse begin to race as those horrific weather disasters were headed my way. Natural Disasters are elongated nightmares, that haunt you while asleep and torture you while awake. Even sadder, it seems that those, every hundred years or once in a 1000-year disaster are more like every other month's occurrences. 

But as I listened to these public emergency officials, I also heard a very snide commentary regarding evacuation, and mainly, as I see it a real lack of priority for the poor. Both County officials urged people to get out of town. They BOTH said, and I paraphrase, go to family or friends at least 20 miles from your zone. If you do not have family or friends go to a hotel out of the hurricane's path. They then added, yet, we have Shelters, but they are not as comfy or spacious as a hotel room, and all you will get there is room for a cot and sharing space with many others. And the final touch was, you should seek shelter elsewhere.

 

I was blessed to either have my family, friends, and even the financial wherewithal to have faced those Natural Disasters, so if I needed to escape I could, and when I needed to rebuild I could. But IN AMERICA, we have people who can’t even manage pay-check to pay-check. We have folks alone, elderly without family. We have neighbors who no longer think that it “takes a village.” We have people who do not own a car, who rely on mass transit, and who fear opening their doors. 

 

I appreciate the efforts made by local Crisis Management Personnel, but damn, WHY, does it seem in matters of survival, having the MEANS can almost make it less of a disaster!

Then I float to the words “right-wing politicians paint schools and universities as bastions of liberal ideology…” Facts, History, Truth, and Education itself, suddenly are dangerous and anti-American… Many of these right-wing-wing-nuts, had limited education and feared smart people, OR, like DeSantis, had a great education and understand that smart people are more difficult to lead off a cliff!

 

And then FINALLY, as for today's RANT… Putin may be losing the war in Ukraine, but HE is certainly winning a war in the United States under his General Trump and his ARMY of CULTISTS, who have successfully opened a rift in this nation. Nine Eleven

 I did not lose family or friends during the ACTS OF TERRORISM, on 9/11. I still grieved. I was astounded, shocked, and torn inside out during the initial hours of the unfolding events on 9/11 feeling lost, fearful, confused, worried, and horrified. I remember the fright of thinking this is Doomsday; the end of any security has arrived! 

I was living in Newport Beach CA, with no family members around, my best friends seemed too far away, and I wondered what happens next, what happens when actual war will break out.  Am I brave enough to act instead of reacting? Am I now only going to be on the defense weakened by fear and lack of information, or might I actually be nimble enough to take the offense, despite the media almost shutting down, leaving me with more unanswered questions than answers! I was the Executive Director of the Orange County JCC, and my immediate responsibility was to the members of my JCC, and even as my angst grew faster and quicker with each passing fact of death and destruction, I had to make sure those in my care were taken care of. (No hero I, but at least the ability to take care of others made me feel I still had some control of my life)

 

Finally, at home, my drapery shut, door double bolted, thinking some invading force might enter my apartment complex, candles at the ready, CNN tuned into on the TV set in my living room, CBS blaring on the TV set in my bedroom, (wishing Walter Cronkite was alive and explaining to me what ACTUALLY was happening), I sat. Every single END OF THE WORLD movie I had ever watched came rushing into my brain as if a tornado had landed, and I remember running to my kitchen to check for food, thinking what if the Invasion is here. I, like a madman, found every possible container to hold water, wondering if eventually that source of life would also be attacked. I had a Nokia Cell phone, provided to me as the Executive Director, and way back when, I still remembered the phone numbers of my family and friends. For some minutes the phone connected other moments nothing. My landline was a gold mine, I spoke to the people I loved.

 

Until our present-day morphs into HISTORY, and we then can reflect upon its myriad of machinations, the moment's inch by and hours seem like years and the days an eternity. I have to wonder, what exactly has been learned from 9/11. I worry that those who refuse to acknowledge history as a Book of Knowledge, who instead just see it as Propaganda, will willfully choose ignorance as a guide, leading us to repeat and repeat and repeat!

If this IS true, and from my point of view, I believe it IS true, I have to wonder, if, in fact, TRUMP will remain above the law, BECAUSE there seem to be two laws in America one for MAGA/TRUMP/REPUBLICANS and one for anyone who IS not a MAGA/TRUMP/REPUBLICAN.

I am but a non-educated in legal matters citizen. I am, however, a citizen, growing so tired of exceptions made on behalf of Trump, who has a history of breaking laws. Of course, Judge Cannon, this IS unprecedented, because prior to this, NO PRESIDENT, has ever stolen Top Secret Documents from MY government. Trump had been asked to return ALL of the documents, but he CHOOSE not to. Trump’s cadre of lawyers told the government on behalf of Trump, that ALL documents would be returned, they were NOT. Top Secret Documents were not secured, interspersed with all kinds of other items, seemingly taken from the White House, and NOT considered Trump's personal property. What exactly, Judge Cannon are the safeguards for MY country? And how long will it take Judge Cannon to select a “special master”? Seriously, Judge Cannon, one has to wonder, whose concern you have in mind with a judgment like this!

 Late last month, a so-called “trigger law” went into effect following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade earlier this year. The trigger law makes it a felony to perform an abortion in the state with narrow exceptions when the pregnant person’s life is at risk. 

“We want to support those victims, but also those victims can access health care immediately, as well as to report it,” Abbott told The Dallas Morning News and KXAS-TV’s “Lone Star Politics” in a segment obtained by the Morning News that will air on Sunday. 

“By accessing health care immediately, they can get the Plan B pill that can prevent a pregnancy from occurring in the first place,” he added. 

Plan B is an oral contraceptive that is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex or a “contraceptive accident” to prevent pregnancy, according to the product’s website. The pill prevents an egg from being released from the ovary to prohibit fertilization. 

The Republican governor also told “Lone Star Politics” that reporting a rape to law enforcement “will ensure that the rapist will be arrested and prosecuted.”

However, very few rape cases result in an arrest. While there were 13,327 reported rapes in Texas in 2020, there were only 1,828 arrests for rape, according to the state’s department of public safety. (THE HILL)
