 The stereo/TV/extra storage space for wine glasses, wooden piece of living room furniture, would be playing the 78” albums of Perry Como, Nat King Cole, and the Best Sounds of the Big Bands, during the mid-’50s starting at around 4:00 pm during the already way too dark, dreary, early arrived cold and chilly night of a Pittsburgh New Year’s Eve afternoon. The music of OUR PARENTS was never met with great disdain or complaints, on this particular day, because, while the music from the living room, from THE, all in one entertainment consul, blared an array of SONGS FROM THE ANCIENT, our mother was in the kitchen, baking cupcakes, and cookies, her special pressure cooker version of corned beef, homemade potato salad; in preparation for my sisters and I to enjoy celebrating the coming year! Because, even though my Mother and Father were going, as she would say, “OUT ON THE TOWN,” my Mother wanted to make certain her kids were happy and well-fed!

 

Depending on which year in the mid-’50s, either my oldest sister would be called our baby sitter, or my next to the oldest sister, would be given the title of baby sitter, and an extra supposedly strict warning of, “YOU, HAD BETTER BEHAVE,” or as my sisters would add once my parents cleared the street, “IF YOU DON’T LISTEN TO ME I WILL TELL ON YOU!”

 

I still see all of this and smell the aromas of Corned Beef, fresh desserts, mixed with Chanel Number 5, (only to be worn on New Year’s Eve and weddings), Old Spice, (an added amount for New Year, so one could smell it when my father arrived, and still smell it for about an hour after he left). I see this via the vivid clarity of memories, dancing with dewdrops from the days gone by, never to be relived, but also never to be forgotten. “Be good, my parents would tell us, meaning what they said, but adding the teaser, we will bring home some special treats. (The treats were the Top Hat, with the actual number of the next year engraved with silver sparkle, a Tiara, with the words Happy New Year as a crown, which we were certain had real diamonds on it, horns that when blown into, said Happy New Year, and the best would be the squished pieces of New Year Eve cake, stuck to hotel napkins! I want to remember times when actual INNOCENCE was a saving grace for me, and hope, for next year to welcome the new good old days. Happy New Year!

My blog for today is NOT actually about all of the preceding headlines, RATHER, I used them to make a point about, APOCOPLYPSE movies; you know the kind where the world is about to end, or has ended, and we suddenly are transformed into some obscure year in the future, 50 years ahead, 100 years ahead, and sometimes even 1000 of years ahead.  (A disclaimer for the moment, I LOVE, APOCOLYPSE movies almost as much as I ADORE ZOMBIE movies). Whenever I watch either genre, I often imagine, what EXACTLY I might do to survive, live or let die, fight or conform, or just curl up in a fetal position). It used to be a fun game for me, looking into the POST-APOCOLYPSE environment, oohing and awing about all of the adaptations HUMANS had to make, were forced to make, OR had made for them. I said, “IT USED TO BE A FUN GAME,” but not anymore.

 

In most of the APOCOLYPSE or ZOMBIE movies, the entire plot rest on the PREMISE, that somehow the HUMAN SPECIES, was ABLE to survive, all of the doom and gloom…as in being smart enough or strong enough to FIGHT BACK, FIGHT AGAINST, FACE FORWARD…WELL, read, just a few headlines I listed, then I am certain place YOUR own mind-bending or is it mind-blowing headlines about COVID/AMERICAN FASCISM/THREAT OF NUCLEAR WAR from CHINA, or RUSSIA, or IRAQ/GLACIERS MELTING/MORE MURDERS BY OWNERS OF GUNS/…I TRULY, NOW wonder if there WILL BE any life at all even one day after some APOLICTIC event occurs! Right in front of our eyes, and we refuse to look!

My Grandma Braff, would show up for the holidays, but it was the next day, she would finally wish everyone, the expected greeting, of “Good,” or “Happy,” “Mazol Tov,” or “La Chaim!”

 

As I grew old enough to actually appreciate my Grandma Braff’s philosophy upon her life, and its adventures, detours, highways, and byways, I took the time to question (and as she would say “DISCUSS, AND NOT BE DISGUSTED,” about the “WHY’S and WHY NOTS,”) of and her position on the present and future, and not necessarily consider it JUST HER OPINION!  Her advice was simple, at least as she stated it. “If you live for today, how you will ever know, how that day turned out unless THAT DAY BECOMES TOMORROW!” At first, my brain would seem to crash when trying to figure out this convoluted message, but eventually, my mind would settle in on the content, and the insanity melded into sanity.

 

So today, Sunday, December 26, 2021, as I look back on the Christmas Holiday, knowing that despite, the idiots who declared COVID a Democrat created weapon, despite those coup loving Republicans who think waving the American Flag is the only true example of saving Democracy, despite the Right-Wing Hypocrites who demand their freedoms and not YOUR freedoms are Constitutional, I see that Christmas actually happened and that the “MERRY/GOOD/HAPPY holiday happened. Then, the latest VOICE, showcasing the latest CLOWN from FOX, Jesse Watters said, (“Now you go in for the kill shot. The kill shot? With an ambush? Deadly. Because he doesn’t see it coming,”-Politico) Speaking on Monday at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference, about Dr. Fauci. 

 

Joe Manchin seems to hate poor people, families with children, working-class families, and HIS one voice is commanding all kinds of sound bites and sensations. Jordan/Greene/Gosar/Perry/Boebert/Gaetz/McCarthy still have access to microphones and issues of law and order, even as evidence mounts against them proving they were all in ON THE ATTEMPTED COUP OF JANUARY 6, 2021. Madwomen and Madmen sitting on local School Boards are in the process of LOUDLY banning books and who knows maybe even trying a bit of a Nazi Thing, by burning them!  It was a dark and stormy afternoon on the Cape! The kind of doom is approaching, winter’s day in December that Paul Simon must have considered while writing, “I Am A Rock,” and a very strong reminder for me of the Decembers in Pittsburgh, usually occurring during the weekends, when nothing but fives shades of grey (not FIFTY) hissed, hemmed, and hawed, leaving one to wonder, if there was a horizon ahead, or maybe The End Days WERE actually fast approaching. Back in the day, (and at 72 those days seem to grow further away) a dark and stormy, wet, cold, dreary Dead Zone Day was ACTUALLY a kind of wonderful phenomenon for me, especially when, the rest of my family was out and about, and I had the entire house to myself. We had two sofa’s in our living room, one was especially for company, and the other was the general-purpose be as messy as you like a sofa. The company sofa had schmuties covering it, and somehow, my mother believed that those schmuties kept that sofa clean and void of any family cooties. Okay, my siblings and I agreed, but if my mother truly understood what COOTIES really was, she would have removed the schmuties, because back in the day only a cootie shot (a strong punch on your triceps’) could kill COOTIES). Black and white movies were the cure for a deep and dark December (thank you Paul Simon), those and an afghan knitted by my grandmother, with an ample amount of cookies.

 

So, the point of all this random memory is that on Sunday, December 19, 2021, the weather outside of my home was frightful, and inside it was so delightful (thank you Sammy Cahn for the lyrics to ‘Let It Snow,’) minus the snow, the grey was as intense as a Pittsburgh winter, and the browns and darker browns of the dead leaves fallen and those still clinging to even sparser branches, the gusts of winds, scattering the pigeons pecking for food in our backyard, made me yearn for a black and white movie…BUT instead, I longed for a good Zombie Movie and re-watched World War Z! The opening scenes of this movie, still send me on edge, making my adrenaline work overtime, and my WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE, almost pushed to limits, like the led lid of a PRESSURE COOKER, when the steam wants to explode!

 

How fucking complacent we HUMANS become, how selfish, how ill-willed, how enormously arrogant, and FUCKING STUPID, we somehow achieve to become. COVID is still here, it never left us. Death, dying, delusion still hang over our heads as might the air pollution of China, and as if all we had to do is wish it away, we HUMANS get pissed off, when bad never leaves us but lingers on! The Zombies in World War Z are amazingly adept at acclimating to the environment; and yet the Non-Zombies, remain as ineffective, and irrelevant as ever. On this dark and stormy day, I wonder, worry, and ask the question WHY!

 I AM BACK! If you didn’t miss me, I understand, I mean just one less voice in the land of the Internet, it’s like looking at the sand on a beach and commenting, “I was here, yesterday, and I swear there were at least 2 billion, 50 million, 35 thousand four hundred and fifty-two grains of sand, and I think one is missing today! Exactly, what IS a missing grain of sand? EXACTLY, and that is my point, as I return to my trusty MAC, and ponder the poison in politics, and the people who seem to find great pleasure in potions of poison, as Dolly Levi, once stated, (Dolly "Gallagher" Levi: “Money, pardon the expression, is like manure. It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow.”) However in the decade of the Debacle known as Donald and his delusional douchebags, the quote may need some twerking, and might read, “Poison, pardon the expression, is a good as manure. It is not worth a thing unless it's spread around to every bigot, racist, homophobe, misogynist, anti-Semite, Fascist, encouraging their hate to grow!

 

I actually was FUSSING AND FUMING, RANTING AND RAVING, on Saturday, December 18, 2021, but could not find the wherewithal (what exactly IS WHEREWITHAL) to calm myself down and to sit at my computer and lament the lawlessness, lewdness, ludicrous, farcical, foolish, asinine and absurd intentional actions by GOP Congresspeople, Sinema and Manchin (wanna be GOP idiots), anti-vaxxers, seemingly happy with helping people commit suicide, the Partisan members of the Supreme Court who believe the Bible (the New Testament is law, and that if the laws were good enough for America in 1776, then BY GOD, THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR 2021! BUT, after APPROACH-AVOIDING my computer, and finally asking my husband Joe to lock the door to my office and throw away the key…I decided, to let one day go by without my SNARK/SARCASM/(and to brag a bit INSIGHT), but to always remain vigilant, and to remember that SILENCE EQUALS DEATH!

He is destroying his legacy.” BUT THEN: “From a chaotic Washington tonight, earlier today the Capitol was under siege by people who can only be described as antithetical to the MAGA movement,” Ms. Ingraham said on the Jan. 6 episode. “Now, they were likely not all Trump supporters, and there are some reports that Antifa sympathizers may have been sprinkled throughout the crowd.” Ms. Ingraham went on to cite “legitimate concerns about how these elections were conducted,” while adding that any dissatisfaction with the vote should not have resulted in violence.

CATASTROPHIZING

 Some people always let their minds jump to the worst possible conclusions.

This is known as catastrophic thinking, or "catastrophizing."

It's a habit people get into for various reasons, and it can be difficult to break.

But it can be done, by learning to be logical and calm and having a support network of sensible people you can call when you feel out of control.

 

Before I was able to say the phrase “I AM WHO I AM, and during the period of actual acknowledgment that PERHAPS, MAYBE, I MIGHT, and WTF I THINK I AM GAY, my entire life was filled with “what if’s”/ “what if they’s”/I can’t let it happens/will they begin to ignore me’s, and a cornucopia of cruel and evil worries making my anxiety level flood and leaving me to drown as might the waves of a continuous tsunami! When I was actually able to speak my TRUTH, to MYSELF, I no longer had to dwell in the past, fear the future, or hide from the present. Often times I find that using a personal example clarifies, at least for me, the CONCERNS and CONFUSION, I TOO OFTEN discover in our current events and the cartoon characters starring in the latest HYPOCIRCY AND BULL SHIT politics and politicians, create!

And if the writing of even the most SCHLOCK-FILLED MOVIE is any good, the viewer will eventually not be able to tell the difference between the ZOMBIE/the MONSTERS/or the SPACE ALIENS and HUMAN BEINGS!

 

The HORROR-IFIC MOVIE which played from January 20, 2017, and ended on January 20, 2021, is a perfect example of never being quite being able to discern the difference from the good guy to the bad guy. Evil Incarnate in the form of TRUMP, his Court Jester of Demons, and the Pathetic Politicians of the Republican Party, ALL willing to BREAK LAWS/IGNORE JUSTICE, and PERMIT HATE, FICTION AND LIES to become a priority, set the WORST EXAMPLE for the already demented delusional and dangerous citizens of this nation. Many of the Treasonists of Jan 6 are still free. The Republican Party acts as if Anarchy was written into the Constitution.  Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert has joined what’s apparently becoming this Christmas’s hottest Republican trend: celebrating with a picture of family members armed as if the “war on Christmas” is an actual siege.

Boebert tweeted out her holiday photo on the same day of the funeral for 16-year-old Tate Myre, who was killed in the massacre at Oxford High School near Detroit last week. The 15-year-old who allegedly shot and killed Myre, 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, and 17-year-old Justin Shilling has been charged with four counts of murder as well as several counts of attempted murder and terrorism. 

 

I could ignore the rumination and macabre machinations of a THUG elected to Congress named Boebert, but to do so would permit her actions of anarchy and disingenuously dangerous destruction of DECENCY to become routine, when, as I see it she is nothing but a domestic terrorist. Her sheer arrogance of ignoring the deaths of the recent victims of gun violence, using her children to embrace ASSAULT WEAPONS, is a sickening demonstration of one more person whose PARENTING should be questioned, and grave concerns about her ability to raise her children constantly raised.

 

So, now the newest of LITMUS Tests for the GOP is to EMBRACE Assault Weapons and to IGNORE, purposely, it seems to me, the fact that INNOCENCE and the INNOCENT die and or are left traumatized.  Boebert is a stain, a joke, a court jester but a shining star for the women and men living in a TRUMP AMERIKA! Her actions are nothing but “SHOW AND TELL,” but sadly too many in this country find her a hero!

Some days I wait until the morning fog of mindless COVID denial has died, along with way too many of the mindless minions, who feign denial but regale in rhetoric both ridiculous and rotten. Other days I hit the delete button on my computer whenever the first, second, or third word is TRUMP, knowing that every other word after, will be created from lies, bull shit, turd, and the ashes spread from a Fire Pit, created by the Military in Iraq, or Afghanistan. Way too many days, I raise a furrowed brow, as the Media somehow derides President Biden as walking around almost comatose, announcing once again that the Dems are better at destroying the Democrat Party than are the GOP (of which I agree, but am so sick of nodding my head YES), and reading about how this time Chuckie Schumer found a backbone!

 

2:24 pm, my first paragraph is finished. I sigh, inhale in small amounts but EXHALE with a deep, knot of disgust, hoping this batch of breath will heal the pain already gnawing in my gut! More news of the day, or was it yesterday, or the day before (it all seems the same and truly discovering what IS new is confusing) Climate Change, and the do-nothing governments of the world all clamoring how we must do SOMETHING! The Supreme Court, playing religious politics, pretending that somehow the Constitution (written at a time when slavery was cool, women were considered chattel, and somehow well-armed militia would ever caress ASSAULT WEAPONS, and prioritize the welfare of those weapons over the lives of INNOCENTS), IS the all-powerful one time fits all time SOLUTION, you know as many believe their Bibles were written by their GODS, (not your GOD).

In the 1950s in the city of Pittsburgh, every Monday, rain or shine or snow the Air Raid Sirens would blast. This sounding the alarm, just in case the Russians launched a surprise attack, was a loud long resonating bit of noise, but we in Pittsburgh understood that if a nuclear bomb were to fall, we all would surely have enough time to find a fallout shelter and whether that storm! Monday’s at NOON, sirens, look up in the sky (just in case), and know in about three minutes or a sequence of three loud blasts of noise all would be well, and World War Three was canceled. But just to make certain that American school kids in Pittsburgh were safe during a surprise attack, we had something called a RETENTION DRILL. Yep, it was not a Fire Drill, (because with Fire Drills, our Principal would announce on the Loud Speaker, that in a few minutes the bell would ring, and we all would line up and as our Librarian would remind us, when the hands go up those of the teacher, leading us to safety, our mouth goes shut.) The RETENTION DRILL would not be announced (remember the Russians were going to sneak attack us), and the RETENTION DRILL alarm was the most INSIDIOUS DECIBEL of SOUND a child could hear. When the RETENTION SIREN rang, I remember to this day wanting to pee in my pants, flashes of my family falling in my brain, and my heart racing…I mean, MAYBE this time the Third World War was real. If we were too late to make it into the hallway, we had to hide under our desks. And sometimes there were not enough desks!

 

I still recall the ABSOLUTE FEAR, of the RETENTION SIREN. For the life of me, I cannot even FATHOM the ANGST, ANXIETY, HORRIFYING, PUNCH IN THE GUT, MALICIOUS STENCH OF DEATH that must linger in the hearts and souls of students in ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS in America over the past 5 decades. And Thomas’s wife Ginny, Conservative political activist Virginia Thomas told her husband Justice Clarence Thomas’s former law clerks that she was sorry for a rift that developed among them after her election advocacy of President Donald Trump and endorsement of the Jan. 6 rally in D.C. that resulted in violence and death at the Capitol. Another so-called SUPREME COURT JUSTICE, Alito, on November 12, Justice Samuel Alito gave a controversial speech to the Federalist Society, an influential conservative legal group with close ties to the judiciary. Bemoaning what he characterized as growing threats to free speech and religious liberty, Alito took aim at the Supreme Court’s historic decision that same-sex couples have a right to marry, along with recent cases on abortion rights and restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. I am angry, offended, perturbed, pissed, worried. Hey all you women who voted Republican, do you really think, if abortion laws of overturned in favor of anti-abortion fanatics, the rest of your liberties won’t be the next thing on the chopping block. I originally was to write my BLOG, with greater anger than usual, as I read and re-read how WAY too many TRUMPSTERS (aka Anarchists, and wannabe Fascists) have decided that the death and dying, the morning and loss of people who have died from COVID has somehow become a political ploy or worse, one more point of propaganda for the ilk known as Republicans. I became inundated with the STUPIDITY of groups of people either uneducated in the SCIENCES/MECIDINE/ or so BIGOTED AND RACIST, that lack of common sense, has left them SENSELESS, and in my opinion, INSANE! And then a thought entered my brain, trying its best to not drown in the DUMB AS SHIT RESIDUE, spilling out like raw sewage from FOX/the GOP Leadership/ and MAGA… why not follow the actions of the LGBTQ community, and read the NAMES of the innocent who died, because way too many of the GUILTY wanted to ignore suffering, death, dying, and preferred their own HATE to TRUTH. I believe every day, every paper in the land, and every news outlet, no matter how large or small their community may be, should read the names of the unknown who have died due to COVID. As the NAMES Project intended, we can provide, DIGNITY AND RESPECT, and SHAME the FOOLS who declare it otherwise…

 

And then, before I decided to post my BLOG, this happened…Law enforcement officials say that three students have been killed and six others have been injured in a shooting at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit. (MSNBC) And I thought, I am just as angry by the death by guns and the men and women who use them to murder, and decided, why not begin to list the names of ALL the victims of mass shootings, and individual’ killing spree… Sadly many to most of the people who pretend MURDER BY WEAPONS is not real, just as DEATH from COVID IS NOT REAL…
