Respecting fear

“Trump isn’t interested in being honorable — he’d rather be feared. An America that betrays her commitments by force or by threat of force will find the cost of political capital exorbitantly expensive.” (Los Angeles Times)

This article should come as no surprise to anyone who is not currently living inside Trump’s orange anal cavity. Many people who have known Trump from his earliest days of being given a million dollars by his Racist and Bigoted father, have implied that Trump had a deep desire to emulate Mob Bosses. From the literature, to films, to the real life headlines, we the people have gleaned an understanding that in the world of the Mafia, “MIGHT MAKES RIGHT!”

“President Trump and many of his admirers believe he’s “restoring” America’s reputation on the world stage. Trump himself often says that we’ve “never been more respected.” “The deeper confusion is about what he means by “respect.” From the way Trump talks about geopolitics, it’s clear he equates “respect” with a Machiavellian mix of “fear,” “strength” or “power.” That is one definition. For instance, many people respect China as an economic and military power. But such respect is not synonymous with “admiration.” Everyone respects North Korea as a nuclear power. But few non-deranged people admire the Hermit Kingdom in any other way.” (Los Angeles Times)

Trump demands respect; he does not wish to earn it, but by simply stating he deserves respect, he believes, as most lies he spews, that once he says it is so, IT IS SO. Sadly for we the people, those who actually have the power via the Constitution to who can actually intervene in Trump’s make-believe world, and end his dystopian machinations, they too have been trained to be afraid. Be it threatened with a primary or subpoenaed or sued or have their billionaire donors abandon them or be told that the MAGA Christian Nationalists will tar and feather them, those with the power to stop this madness won’t, and don’t.

We the people, watch, wait, worry, and wonder, what comes next?
