President Biden on Tuesday afternoon signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, granting federal protections to same-sex and interracial couples, and marking a milestone in the decades-long fight for marriage equality. (Washington Post)
Thank you, President Biden. I know you have been a champion for the LGBTQ community, and this bill helps. BUT President Biden as an American who among many attributes was born a Homosexual, I must say that the Respect for Marriage Act is similar to removing the White’s Only sign from hotels or bathrooms, because once inside both those in the churches still have the power to deny service. I thought the United States of America was founded on having no Government sanctioned religion.
The Respect for Marriage Act will not force states to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples but will require that people be considered married in any state as long as the marriage was valid in the state where it was performed. (Washington Post)
Mr. President, I certainly understand the milestone reached with this act, and again Sir, I respect your effort. BUT as long as some states within this nation have the freedom to deny the LGBTQ community total freedom to marry, I just have to sigh and ask a rhetorical question, so as a member of the LGBTQ community who I love is judged while those heterosexuals committing adultery, on their third fourth or fifth marriages, are somehow A-OKAY.
Oh yeah, President Biden, I am not sure if Clarence Thomas has thanked you, because the Respect for Marriage Act requires states to accept his interracial marriage, but maybe prohibit others. Just saying, crumbs are crumbs!
