John Adams went even further, advocating for the President to be addressed as “His Majesty.” Washington himself had no desire for absolute power, but he was concerned that future Presidents might not have his scruples. (Time Magazine)
UH-HUH! A concern that ‘…future Presidents might not have his scruples…’ George Washington had the foresight to realize that Presidents were in fact and will be in fact nothing but mere mortals.
"God forbid we should ever think of involving that country we have, under your conduct & auspices, rescued from oppression, into a new scene of blood & confusion; but it cannot be expected we should forego claims on which our future subsistence & that of our families depend," wrote Nicola. (Colonel Lewis Nicola, a 65-year-old, Irish-born military veteran who lent significant expertise to Washington's forces during the war.)

Mere Mortals, yet so it seems way too many Politicians believe that their purpose is to become a kind of Royalty, and in the case of way, too many current Republicans to actually become Tyrant. So far, we have term limits for a sitting President (I imagine if Trump is re-elected he might very well try to change that), we DO NOT HAVE TERM LIMITS for Senators and Representatives, which, at least for me, helps these Politicians to think of themselves as some kind of Deity!
And with the behavior of men like Nixon and Trump, one must wonder, at least I do, why there is not a more concerted effort in this country to set a better clearer understanding that being President is not and never will be a person above the law. We are not, YET, a MONARCHY!
