hate by any other name

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society.

The SPLC was founded to ensure that the promises of the civil rights movement became a reality for all. Since our founding in 1971, we’ve won numerous landmark legal victories on behalf of the exploited, the powerless and the forgotten.

Our lawsuits have toppled institutional racism in the South, bankrupted some of the nation’s most violent white supremacist groups and won justice for exploited workers, abused prison inmates, disabled children and other victims of discrimination.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has helped identify those Americans who disregard, ignore, bully, stereotype and victimize citizens of this nation for no other reason than hate for difference. And now I wonder when the SPLC will begin to recognize the racist, homophobic, bigotry and bias expressed by most to all of the candidates running for the office of president representing the Republican Tea Party.

To appease the ignorant haters of Iowa, Santorum, Gingrich, Romney, Bachmann, Paul have derided that anyone of the same sex demonstrating love for a partner of the same sex as pedophile, bestiality and the sweet perfume of everything antiChrist. They have pontificated how Gay maybe okay but doing anything Gay is dangerous, immoral and basically unAmerican. To appease the haters of South Carolina, Florida, Gingrich and Santorum have insisted that blacks like using food stamps, are lazy, love the whiteys money and really never have had any use for the American dream. Feeding into the hate frenzy of so called Christian voters many of the Republican/Tea Party candidates have stereotyped the blacks and have done so a bit more bravely than the KKK as none of the Republican/Tea Party candidates wear white hoods.

The so called Christian values candidates have derided anything Islam, have assured their Born Again supporters, that In God We Trust is not for all those made up Gods just the one that co wrote the Constitution as he sat next to Thomas Jefferson and his name is certainly not Mohammad. We are assured, if you listen to the Republican/Tea Party candidates, that terrorism is alive and well with any of those who go to a mosque to pay homage to a false God. And oh by the way Evangelicals are not quite sure that Mormonism is not a cult so once the Muslims are eliminated from voting might not the Mormons be next?

Then there are the poor, the elderly, and the disabled and their socialist selfishness and need for jobs, health care and housing. The Republican/Tea Party slew of sleuths seem to think these groups of people are suspicious and need more scrutiny as to what they really want, what is their goal, how much they are undermining the American dream. And by God, not any God but the God only they, and their legion of bigots and racists believe in, they will not vote for extended unemployment, universal health coverage or equal access. These groups take the promise out of some made up and hate filled America.

I have donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center knowing that the work they do directly and indirectly makes my living in this nation safer and sounder. I applaud their diligence in finding the truth and digging away the bullshit which so often is disguised as truth. I just wonder when the SPLC will look closer at the racist, homophobic, anti-Islamist, anti women, anti poor rhetoric vehemently spilled by the candidates of the Republican/Tea Party candidates and so well received by the hate mongers calling themselves Christians.

Hate is hate even when it is created by men and women in business suits and large sums of money in their political action committees. And haters are haters even when they say they are the sons and daughters of God.
