Terry Schiavo/Militia/Susan Collins/Christian Taliban of Texas… DANGER-DANGER!
TERRY SCHIAVO: At the heart of the Terry Schiavo case, Michael Schiavo, her husband, began requesting in 1995 that she legally be allowed to die. He believed she would never emerge from her comatose state — as did every doctor who examined her. He did not want her to live in a permanent vegetative state, unconscious, unresponsive, and unable to interact with the world since he felt that she would not want to be in that condition. Terri’s family bitterly disagreed. What began a private dispute moved from Florida circuit courts to district courts to state courts to federal courts, to Congress, to the U.S. Supreme Court. President George Bush almost created a constitutional crisis between the courts and the executive branch in trying to override the Florida courts which had, time after time, backed Michael Schiavo’s decision. Former Senator and surgeon Bill Frist saw his Presidential dream disappear when he challenged Terri Schiavo's diagnosis without directly examining her. During his tenure as Florida governor, Jeb Bush decided to fight his own state courts in trying to override their decision to let her die. (NBC News)
MILITIA: A militia (/mɪˈlɪʃə/)[1] is generally an army or some other fighting organization of non-professional soldiers, citizens of a country, or subjects of a state, who may perform military service during a time of need, as opposed to a professional force of regular, full-time military personnel; or, historically, to members of a warrior nobility class (e.g. knights or samurai). SUSAN COLLINS: Republican Sen. Susan Collins, a supporter of abortion rights who cast a critical vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh, said in an interview with CNN that despite his vote in a recent abortion access case, she did not believe Kavanaugh would ultimately vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. “I have always been concerned about preserving Roe v. Wade,” Collins said Monday, adding that Kavanaugh had given her assurances during his confirmation process that the landmark opinion was safe. “He said under oath many times, as well as to me personally many times, that he considers Roe to be ‘precedent upon precedent’ because it had been reaffirmed in the Casey v Planned Parenthood case,” Collins added, dismissing any criticism of her as partisan politics. TEXAS CHRISTIAN TALIBAN: The law bars abortions once cardiac activity can be detected in the embryo. This typically occurs around the sixth week of pregnancy. That is very early in a pregnancy, and many women do not know they are pregnant at that point. The law does not make exceptions for rape or incest. It does permit abortions for health reasons, but the exceptions are narrowly drawn. The Texas law bars state officials from actually enforcing it, a design intended to make it difficult to challenge in the courts. Instead, the Texas law deputizes private citizens to sue anyone who performs an abortion or “aids and abets” a procedure. Plaintiffs who have no connection to the patient or the clinic may sue and recover legal fees, as well as $10,000 if they win.
