Back in the day, (and the older I get those days seem to be further and farther back), I was a wiry, skinny runt of a kid, and any which way I wished my body to contour and adjust, I easily did so! When it came to dance, from tap to jitterbug, to THE LIMBO, I was the guy who was first on the dance floor, and eager to show off. Lots of jocks and athletic kids would attempt the LIMBO, but as tough and rough as they might be on a field, no one was as agile as me when it came to going under that INFAMOUS LIMBO BAR! I won many a 45” record, be it from Bar or Bat Mitzvah Parties or School Dances. “HOW LOW CAN YOU GO”, and I slithered under the LIMBO BAR. “Jack be limbo, Jack be quick, Jack go under limbo stick. Nowadays, and somehow THESE DAYS, (seem to feel like HANGOVERS, having drunk some really cheap alcohol, with the room spinning and spinning, no matter how often you attempt to hug the porcelain bowl) … THE LIMBO ROCK has taken on a more devious, and smarmy sinister definition for me. I don’t hear Chuckie Checker singing with pizzaz and motivation, instead, I hear the deadly tomes of DeSantis/Cruz/Abbott/ and Pence to mention a few, demanding that BAD is BETTER, EVIL is a sign of GOD, and HATE and LOATHING, qualities of a PATRIOT. All of them were in a race to please something identified as the REPUBLICAN BASE.
