Column: ‘Death panels’ arrive — in COVID-stricken Republican Idaho
A bogeyman in the debates over Obamacare, death panels have arrived for real in Idaho after lax anti-COVID measures hobbled hospitals. It may be recalled that one of the chief GOP arguments against the Affordable Care Act in 2010 was that it would institute bureaucratic "death panels" to determine, in the words of former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, whether someone was "worthy of healthcare." Sarah Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, said this week that she has not received the COVID-19 vaccine because she believes “in science.” “I am one of those white, common sense conservatives,” Palin said. “I believe in science and I have not taken the shot.” (Huffpost)
As of Thursday, West Virginia had 109 new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people on average over the past seven days, the highest rate of new daily cases in the nation, followed closely by Tennessee, according to data compiled by The Wall Street Journal.
On Friday, there were a record 922 people with Covid-19 hospitalized in West Virginia, up from 52 in the first week of July. There are 277 people in intensive-care units now, up from 17 in early July. The state announced 57 new Covid-19 deaths Friday, bringing the total to 3,370, in a state of 1.8 million people. I could NOT, even if I wanted to, and believe me, I WANT TO, make up a more bizarre group of headlines regarding THE SHEER STUPIDITY, MALICE, POLITICAL BULL SHIT, DUMB AS SHIT, ARROGANT, CALLOUS, CARELESS, AND INSIPID, responses to COVID. I was going to STOP writing about the desire of mainly REPUBLICANS, call for their constituents to commit a form of suicide, and indeed the Republicans blasé bigotry and bias to help promote PRE-MEDITATED MANSLAUFGHTER, by pretending COVID does NOT kill, COVID does NOT attack, and COVID is NOT real…But then I chanced upon the headlines in which, climbing out from under whatever assortment of rocks she calls home, SARAH PALIN emerged and added, as usual, one of the sickest commentaries of her UNDERWHLEMING LIFE!
