upon our 250th

US Supreme Court guts key provision of Voting Rights Act. (Reuters)

Upon our 250th anniversary as a Republic, after decades of attempts to correct the wrongs that drift into the crevices of a democracy still trying to grow and develop into more than just an idea, an ideal, we find ourselves traveling back in time, permitting those who are the antithetical purposes of creating a society free of confining its citizens.

The same people who decided that women do not have ownership over their own bodies, the people who claim that a President, is much more like a King or Queen, the same people who roil at the idea of any kind of legal and ethical guidelines for their behavior, have decided that any which way this nation can legally stop its citizens from voting, is exactly the way forward as we end our 250th year of existence, and begin a new anniversary facing backwards rather than forward.

This Court, which praised the existence of Dark Money, which prescribed gerrymandered districts as some kind of Constitutional right, this Court, which has redefined the Executive Branch as the pillar of our government to practice authoritarianism, has decided that the legalities of the rules of law weigh less than the partisan politics, preferring philosophical definitions above reproach.

And here we have Justices sitting on the highest court in the land, who, at their own whims, or worst of all, the whims of their moneyed puppet masters, or their pastors or preachers, can reshape and remake our freedoms for the entirety of their lives as Justices.

250 years, and suddenly every single right and freedom we have fought for is facing its death!
