Mr. Trump said days after taking office he planned to "begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA, or maybe getting rid of FEMA," criticizing the agency for allegedly responding slowly to natural disasters.
The president later ordered a review of FEMA, tasking Noem and other administration officials with assessing the agency's performance and considering "whether FEMA can serve its functions as a support agency, providing supplemental Federal assistance, to the States rather than supplanting State control of disaster relief." Hurricane season is upon us. Currently, we are in Tornado season and flash Flood season. FEMA, for all of its faults and delays, has been there to assist in rebuilding and helping when the moments matter, when desperation and despair are loathsome. Through Wildfires, Mudslides, and Flooding, the American citizens who are most vulnerable and in primary rescue, FEMA has added a bit of stability in a chaotic and consequential series of events.
But to cut back on Government services in order to get his Tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy, Trump (the MAGA Savior) TRUMP favors less federal assistance, preferring to let the states handle the crux of the cost, except when and if those states have little ability and less money to do so. One more example of “Let Them Eat Cake!”
