A Brownie

My husband Joe, really likes, I would say loves anything chocolate. He and I have little problem in the area of snacks, or desserts as I am one of the few living Americans not persuaded by the allure of chocolate (except for a Kit Kat Bar), so there is never a quarrel as to who gets to eat the last piece. We were staying at our friends house in P-Town, Joe had just returned from getting another tattoo, and I was running a few errands, when Joe got the cravings for something sweet. Opening the fridge, in our guest house, low and behold, Joe discovered some brownies, and as it was in Alice and Wonderland, as Alice fell through the rabbit hole to find Wonderland, these packages of brownies almost called to Joe saying “Eat Me”. There were three fine looking brownies to choose from, and Joe decided that the dreamiest darkest square would be the most perfect selection, pleasing not only his sweet tooth, but his cravings for wanting something deliciously chocolate RIGHT NOW.

Joe and I had some plans that afternoon, meeting with a good friend and talking about when and if Joe and I would ever give serious consideration in the next many years of moving to the Cape. Plans and the future all positive items to discuss and having a very good friend to discuss them with EVEN BETTER. Joe and I decided this would be the only very serious few hours of our stay in P-Town and once we handled this business everything would once again return to pleasure. The three of us were discussing the views of our own personal world, when suddenly, Joe freezes, his eyes became either hazy, glazed over looking as if he had a sudden serious case of cataracts. Our friend and I ran over to him thinking he was going to fall flat on his face (too handsome of a face for that to happen to). And as we approached Joe, he said, as if he was on the witness stand in court. “They were wrapped so tightly, with a very reddish bow, they looked so perfect, it took me time to unwrap the plastic, but I thought it was certainly worth it. It was a small brownie, so I ate the whole thing, quickly, almost licking my fingers it was so delicious. Damn! I am high as kite right now.” And for the rest of that day and evening Joe was having a party in his head and he was the only one in attendance.

Many times we can be tricked into dallying with what it is we find fancy. Often times, we indulge, not playing too much mind to any consequences because at that moment the aroma’s the desires, the instant gratification become boss and willingly we follow along. Donald Trump for many was and still is that brownie, picture perfect as he tries his best to remain hermetically sealed. Once the seal is cut open and we get a better taste of the contents we understand a bit too late that THIS taste in our mouth is not what we bargained for.
