Love What?

The Dixie Chicks had enough of George W Bush, wrote a song calling him out on his lies and they might have well been living in the 1950’s finding themselves on  Senator McCarthy’s list of Communists; the list that denied artists their freedom of speech and thus their means of earning a living. The Dixie Chicks were banned from radio, they were considered enemies of the state. Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, said “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told the NFL after his game against Green Bay. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” There has been outcry, dismay and his jersey has already been burned in effigy as protest.

A Civil War had been perpetrated against the United States of America, hostility toward what is now commonly preferred to as our Homeland, a new nation was proposed calling themselves the Confederate States of America. An attack on America but yet, the rebels, anarchists and soldiers of the Confederacy were considered beloved Patriots, serving a valuable historic reminder of what could have made America great. Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy still mourning the loss of Anti-American traitors, believing that the South will rise again, inferring that the current United States has never been a valid nation, all refusing to accept the values of this nation. Many of these individuals, dressed in sheets, using a German insignia on their shirts, recalling the brilliance of keeping the Caucasian Race pure and this a Christian nation, who believe the truest flag to be flown is the Confederate Battle Flag moan and groan that if anyone else does not pledge allegiance or stand for the National Anthem is the real enemy.

“The Confederate flag we’re talking about never flew over an official Confederate building. It was a battle flag. It is to honor Robert E. Lee. And anyone who knows the first thing about military history, knows that there is no greater army that ever took the field than the Confederate Army.”-Ann Coulter/ “Only an idiot opposes the Confederate Flag”-Donald Trump. Hypocrisy, sadly, is a part of the culture of politics, religion, national pride. So who IS THE TRUE AMERICAN? During the protests against the war in Viet Nam shouts of Love it or Leave it were being tossed at anyone against that war. I am so confused by those who look the other way when the Confederate Flag still shines as a beacon of justice, yet demand anyone who is critical of our nations policies is the enemy. What exactly are we loving?
