Threats and portrayals of violence against women have turned into a badge of honor for a party in which traditional notions about gender (back to the 1950s!) have become a key predictor of Republican support. Casting men (even a Supreme Court nominee) as victims of aggressive, “nasty” or unhinged women accusing them of wrongdoing has become standard fare in the Trump party. Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who killed two people and wounded another with an assault rifle in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was found not guilty on Friday on all charges, including intentional homicide. Many who followed the story were angered, though not surprised, by the outcome for the then-17-year-old who traveled from Antioch, Illinois, to a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Kenosha. The protests came in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake by a white police officer. (Vanity Fair)
I took a day off, from reading, watching, listening to the NEWS OF THE DAY. I became so overwhelmed at the BAD NEWS, the NEWS OF DELIBERATE EVIL, that I actually needed to find shelter, for fear that one more HIDDEOUS OR IS IT HENNOUS HEADLINE, might knock me over the edge, you know, the space where life is only practiced in survival mode, and not for enjoyment! Kids disrespectful of teachers, a Political Party divorced from any decency toward democracy. A kid brings an AR weapon and to shoot and kill and does so but is a hero. Airplane passengers as vigilante, Insurrectionist as Patriots…. I find it way too much, BUT to ignore all or any of it, NOT the right choice either…so here I am BACK again with my BLOG!
